Some families choose cremation, but then feel unsure about what to do next. If your loved one cherished the beach or felt at peace on the water, a burial at sea can be a simple, meaningful way to say goodbye.
We now offer ash scattering services in a biodegradable urn through Galveston Burial At Sea. It’s a cost‑effective option for families who want something more personal than a cemetery, and more connected to nature and faith for those who see the ocean as sacred space.
Our private memorial charters provide a peaceful setting to gather, share stories, and release your loved one’s ashes into the Gulf in a respectful, eco‑friendly way. If you or someone you know is looking for this kind of farewell, you can learn more here:

On October 12, 1940, Hollywood lost one of its brightest Western legends in a tragedy as sudden as it was cruel.
Silent film cowboy star Tom Mix was driving his bright yellow 1937 Cord 812 Phaeton convertible along what is now Arizona State Route 79, near Florence. Known for daring stunts and fearless screen rides, Mix was traveling at high speed when he failed to see construction barriers warning of a washed-out bridge. He swerved too late. The car careened off the road and flipped into a gully.
But it wasn’t the crash alone that ended his life.
During the violent rollover, a heavy aluminum Halliburton suitcase from the back seat hurtled forward, striking him in the back of the head. The blow broke his neck, killing him almost instantly. Inside the case were reportedly cash, traveler’s checks, and jewels — a fortune turned fatal in a single heartbeat.
Today, a small stone memorial topped with a riderless horse stands along the highway, marking the place where the screen’s fearless cowboy took his final ride. The gully where his car came to rest is now known as Tom Mix Wash — a quiet stretch of desert forever linked to Hollywood legend.

Last year we shared this, and I felt it was worth sharing again — because it comes from a very real place for me.

Burial At Sea Galveston wasn’t created as a marketing idea. It was created out of listening. Listening to families, friends, and people I personally know who were looking for something simple, dignified, and meaningful for someone they loved.

Over the years, multiple people close to me ended up requesting an ash scattering at sea. Being able to help them through that moment — quietly, respectfully, without pressure or upselling — was honestly one of the most meaningful things I’ve done. It confirmed that there was a real need for this service in Galveston.

Our ash scattering services take place offshore in Galveston and are intentionally very cost-effective — under $1,000. No funeral home runaround. No unnecessary extras. Just a peaceful boat ride, time on the water, and space to remember someone in a way that feels right.

I also want people to know that there are multiple funeral homes throughout the greater Houston area that offer direct cremation, which can help families keep overall arrangements simple and affordable. Many families choose direct cremation and then reach out to us when they’re ready for a meaningful ash scattering at sea.

Some families want a small, private moment.
Some bring several people.
Some want words spoken, others just silence and the sound of the water.

All of that is okay.

We created this service out of customer desire and from my own previous experiences — and I’m grateful we’re able to offer it to families who want something simple, respectful, and meaningful.
