At first glance, sealing around the air conditioner may seem like a good way to keep water and critters out—but it can actually cause serious roof damage.

Your RV air conditioner sits on a gasket that seals the opening in the roof. As the unit runs, condensation collects in the drain pan and exits through small drain openings onto the roof.

When sealant is applied around the base of the air conditioner, those openings can become blocked. This traps water beneath the unit, where it can eventually find its way inside the RV and cause costly water damage.

It may look like added protection, but sealing around the base of your rooftop air conditioner is one of the worst things you can do to your RV.
