Matthew Ryan Rademacher, 27, of Clarksville, was charged today with felony murder and first-degree child abuse in the death of a Clarksville child.
Ionia County Sheriff's Deputies said first responders were called to a residence in the 200 block of West Ferney Avenue around 9 a.m. Sept. 18, where they were told 2-year-old Colton Sceviour had been choking and was not breathing.
First responders resuscitated the boy and took him to the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, where he died hours later, police said.
Staff there told police the infant had bruises and marks on his body, but they found no evidence of choking.
The Kent County Medical Examiner's Office concluded that the child had died of cranial-cerebral trauma, and his death was deemed a homicide.
Deputies said Rademacher was dating Sceviour's mother, and lived at the residence. He was arraigned today in Ionia County District Court and is being held without bond.
