July 9th is Collector Car Appreciation Day, and it has been sponsored by the SEMA Action Network (SAN) since 2009 to promote a love for vintage cars that are considered collector’s items. SAN is basically a partnership between vehicle clubs, enthusiasts, and members of the specialty auto parts industry nationwide. The purpose of the partnership is to take all the required necessary steps to promote the hobby of collecting cars. SAN was founded in 1997 and, since its inception, the affiliation has been countering factors that hinder the growth of the car collection and restoration industry.

SAN works on creating laws that are favorable for car collectors, provides a platform for about 36 million vintage car lovers, and also has over 100 publications under its belt. SAN is also responsible for aiding the U.S. Senate in passing a resolution that allowed Collector Car Appreciation Day to be celebrated every year. On July 9, 2010, the day was marked as an official celebration where classic cars of the past were brought to life.

To kick off the launch of the day with a bang, hundreds of events were held across the country where cars were displayed. Some of these included car shows and car cruises that grabbed the attention of people of varying ages and different social classes. All the events held were centered on the impact of cars on American culture, ranging from music and movies to other aspects of American life.

Today we honored all of our past, present and future members of the year award winners by unveiling the new member of the year stanchion within the new COTB display at the Gallery. The stanchion includes a storyboard about COTB and plenty of room to honor future members. Several recipients of the award joined together around Gene Wagner's featured '74 Corvette (representing the inaugural year of COTB) and the Gallery's beautiful '63 split window to commemorate the day. 2022 Racing is here!

Saturday April 23 11a-4p Drag Racing at WIR (Wisconsin International Raceway) – Dan Terrien’s ’96 Vette vs. club member Doug Cohen’s modified ’16 “sleeper” Impala. Dan and Doug plan to go through tech inspection as early as they can and hope to make a couple pulls down the track late morning or early afternoon. If it rains, WIR may call the race like they did last year, so keep an eye on WIR's page or on the sky.

No run, just meet there, buy a ticket and enjoy the cars and races. If you've never been there, you'll find that sandwiches at the track are pretty good.
Also, they don't have much paved parking, so unless you want to race you may want to bring your regular car.
Spectator $12 includes pit pass.
Race for $30 but you'll need a SNELL approved helmet from 2005 or newer.

For more info on Wisconsin International Raceway go to https://wirmotorsports.com/street-drags

Thank you David Freiburger for this post!

Working on Finnegan’s new ‘66 Corvette today reminds me of Zora Arkus-Duntov, who I was lucky to meet in 1995, a year before his death. He’s a hot rodder you need to know. Born in Belgium, he was in Germany and France before WWII and escaped just in time. In New York, he and his brother created the Ardun overhead valve conversion for Flathead fords. He later worked and raced for Allard, and later won class at 24 Hours of LeMans in a Porsche. Most famously, he worked at GM starting as an engineer in 1953 and later becoming “Father of the Corvette,” as he advanced (but did not invent) that car. Heard of the Duntov 30-30 cam? That was his design. Back in ‘53, he wrote a memo to GM management called “Thoughts Pertaining to Youth, Hot Rodders, and Chevrolet.” This manifesto spelled out that Ford owned the hot rodding market due to interchangeability of parts, and pushed Chevrolet and the pending small-block V8 into the performance market.

Hi,

We're excited to be producing an independent feature film showcasing Door County, Wisconsin and The Green Bay Packers! We will be filming in Door County October - early November.

We are on the hunt for a red sports car, pre 1993 (preferably red) that we could use in a few scenes. Roughly 1-3 days of shooting.

There would be minimal driving involved, and no high speed chases (fortunately, or unfortunately 😉 ).

I was hoping we may find an enthusiastic owner in the Door County / Green Bay areas that may be willing to lend their vehicle to us for the shoot.

We'd love to chat more about the details and are open to any leads! Feel free to message me on FB or email direct at [email protected]

Good luck at the Harvest Festival this weekend - we hope there is good weather and a popular turnout!

We're excited to be producing an independent feature film showcasing Door County, Wisconsin and The Green Bay Packers! We will be filming in Door County October - early November.

We are on the hunt for a red sports car, pre 1993 that we could use in a few scenes. Roughly 1-3 days of shooting.

There would be minimal driving involved, and no high speed chases (fortunately, or unfortunately 😉 ).

I was hoping we may find a willing car owner near Door County / Green Bay that may be open to lending their vehicle to us for the shoot.

We'd love to chat more about the details and are open to any leads! If you're interested, feel free to send me a FB message or email me here: [email protected]
