A 2006 International 4300 flatbed equipped with a DT466 diesel engine experienced an oil leak. The oil serves as the driving force for the fuel injectors, utilizing high-pressure oil, and a loss of oil pressure results in a loss of power and smooth operation. Upon inspection, it was determined that the low-pressure diesel lift pump gasket had failed.

1996 Kenworth T680. The customer reported that the air parking brake emits a hissing sound upon cold start and requires manual intervention to set. Additionally, they noted a loss of air pressure shortly after shutting down the engine. Upon inspection using a soapy water solution, cracks were found in the unit. Notably, the air compressor ran continuously while the truck was in operation, confirming a faulty brake valve, which was subsequently replaced.

What Your Check Engine Light is Telling You
The light’s behavior can tell you a lot about the urgency of the problem.

1. A Solid Check Engine Light
This is the most common scenario. It means your car’s computer has detected a fault in one of its systems. While not an emergency, you should get it diagnosed soon to prevent the issue from becoming worse or causing a drop in fuel economy.

2. A Flashing Check Engine Light
This indicates a serious problem, typically a severe engine misfire. Unburned fuel could be getting into the exhaust system, which can rapidly damage the catalytic converter—a very expensive repair. You should pull over and have your vehicle towed.

3. Reduced Performance or Fuel Economy
Even if the light is solid, you might notice your car is sluggish, hesitating, or using more gas than usual. These are clear signs that the underlying problem is affecting your vehicle’s performance and needs to be addressed.
