Your mower does a lot of work throughout the season. Regular preventive maintenance is how you take care of the equipment you depend on.

At Mobile Mower Clinic LLC, our full-service packages go well beyond simply changing the oil.

We work through the regular maintenance your machine needs while also taking the time to look the mower over. That includes servicing the engine, replacing applicable filters and spark plugs, sharpening and inspecting the blades, lubricating grease points, and inspecting belts, pulleys, spindles, tires, steering components and other common wear areas.

Getting the machine up in the air, like the mower pictured here, is an important part of that process. It allows us to properly access the underside of the mower, service what needs serviced, and get a good look at components that aren't normally visible during everyday use.

Can preventive maintenance guarantee you'll never have a repair? Of course not.

What it can do is keep normal maintenance from being neglected and give us an opportunity to spot worn or damaged components while we're already servicing the machine.

Heads up this time of year.

Ethanol fuel attracts moisture. That leads to hard starts and rough running, especially in single-cylinder engines. If possible, use non-ethanol fuel. If that's not practical, keep fuel fresh and consider a reputable stabilizer to manage moisture. Simple steps now prevent bigger problems later.

A belt doesn’t have to break to be worn out.

This drive belt is a perfect example. The cracking and deterioration along the belt are clear signs that it has reached the end of its useful life. It may still be driving the machine today, but it’s only a matter of time before it fails.

Drive belts are wear items and should be inspected regularly as part of routine maintenance. Catching a worn belt during a scheduled service means it can be replaced before it leaves you stuck halfway through mowing.

Sometimes the best repair is catching the problem before it becomes one.

This mower had erosion control mat wrapped tightly around the blade spindle. Left unnoticed, material like this can work its way into the spindle area, damage seals, overheat bearings, and eventually lead to spindle failure.

Fortunately, this one was found and removed before any damage was done.

If you mow around areas where erosion control mat has been installed, it’s worth taking a quick look underneath the deck occasionally. What starts as a little material wrapped around a spindle can turn into an expensive repair.
