We have an example of late 90s early 2000s window tinting in the shop today. Doing a removal and retint on this 2002 Lexus IS300. During removal we found the rear glass was in 2 pieces. Seemed directly on a defrost line. Reminiscent of old school installs of the way it was done back then before larger rolls and dry shrinking became popular.

While the film was wavy and had barely any color left it was still holding on from 2002. Meaning it was probably a very high quality film at the time.

Cars like these are reminders how how far the technology in the films has grown through the years.

We are going back with our Ceramic Film to keep protecting this interior for years to come

Public Service announcement

I understand people want to save money. I get it. But window film removal is a process and there are correct and incorrect ways to do it. Especially on rear windows.

We steam off the window film so the film stays together. There is a reason we charge what we charge for removals.

With that being said. If you bring me a car “I removed the tint myself for you” and I get back there and there is ANY film left on the vehicle I’m charging you full removal cost.

It takes longer to get the little pieces of film left behind than it does for me to take the film off myself in one piece.

This customer got lucky there was no leftover film on the defrost lines and it was all on the bottom. However with the decklid you can’t reach down there to remove those pieces. Which means disassembly of the rear decklid. Which on some cars means the whole rear seat needs to be removed along with all trim panels surrounding it.

I understand wanting to save a dollar. But please let the professionals do it.

⚠️ BUBBLED REAR WINDOW TINT? DON’T WAIT TOO LONG. ⚠️

That old, bubbled-up tint on your rear glass isn’t just ugly — it can turn into a much more expensive problem.

As window film ages and deteriorates, removing it can become extremely difficult. If it has been left on too long, the adhesive can bond heavily around the rear defroster lines, and those lines can be damaged during removal.

In some cases, the only way to fully correct the problem may be replacing the entire rear glass. 💸
