How do I start a manual regen?

We get this question often and wanted to provide a general outline of the steps to perform a manual regeneration on a late model diesel truck. Note that you should always consult your vehicle's owner's manual or contact a certified mechanic for the most accurate and up-to-date information. In general these steps should. be applicable to most late-model trucks.

Park the vehicle: Find a safe, level, and well-ventilated area to park your truck. Keep in mind that the exhaust system will get very hot during the regeneration process, so make sure there are no flammable materials nearby.

Engage the parking brake: Ensure the parking brake is engaged and the transmission is in neutral.

Start the engine: Start the truck's engine and let it idle. Ensure that the engine has reached its normal operating temperature.

Enable PTO (if applicable): If your truck is equipped with a Power Take-Off (PTO), ensure that it's turned off.

Check the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) level: Make sure there is enough DEF in the tank, as it is necessary for the regeneration process. Top up the DEF if needed.

Initiate manual regeneration: Locate the manual regeneration switch or button in your truck's cab. This might be labeled as "DPF Regen" or something similar. Press and hold the button for a few seconds until you see a confirmation on the instrument cluster indicating that the process has started.
