CVSA's Brake Safety Week (Aug. 23–29) is underway, and this year inspectors are zeroing in on brake drums and rotors at roadside checks across North America. 🔎

The numbers say it all: in the U.S. alone last year, 13,700 inspections were conducted and 2,035 trucks (14.9%) were placed out of service for brake violations. The most common issue? Failing the 20% defective brakes violations, which was cited on nearly 1,200 vehicles. 📊

A few quick drum-and-rotor checks before you roll out:

✅ Inspect visible portions of drums and rotors during pre- and post-trip inspections.
✅ Look for cracked or broken pieces on the rotor's friction surface, or cracks along the outer drum.
✅ A grooved rotor or metal-to-metal contact means your pads are worn — address it before an inspector does.

Catching brake issues early keeps your truck moving and everyone on the road safer. 💪
