Jeep rear axle seal repair!

I was originally called out for a four-wheel brake job, but during the inspection, I found that the driver’s side rear axle seal was leaking gear oil all over the rear brakes.

After informing the customer of the issue, we decided to go ahead with the axle seal repair.

This one fought back a little, but in the end, we got it taken care of!

Part 2 of the Chrysler Pacifica where I figure out what’s wrong with the CAN Bus.

The star connector is a very common problem on Chryslers and, luckily, a pretty simple fix.

I ended up replacing the star connector, and all of the issues were resolved. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a video of the actual repair, but the new connector took care of the problem.

Part 1 of the Chrysler Pacifica. I finished the brakes and control arm, but I still have to figure out the communication issue and install a new water pump.

Quick Tip

You can use a zip tie as a makeshift dipstick to check for brake fluid inside the brake booster.

It’s a quick and easy way to verify that the master cylinder is leaking into the booster before taking anything apart.

Two-wire motors, like a power window motor, are pretty easy to diagnose.

This Jeep has a window switch in the front and another in the rear that both control the driver-side rear window. Since neither switch worked, I suspected either a wiring issue or the window motor itself.

With a 12V two-wire window motor, one of the fastest ways to determine whether the problem is the motor or the vehicle is to supply power and ground directly to the motor.

Since there are only two wires, both act as power and ground depending on the desired direction. Supplying 12V to one wire and ground to the other moves the window one direction. Reverse the polarity, and the motor moves the opposite direction.

If the motor works correctly during this test, you know the problem is somewhere on the vehicle side of the circuit.

In this case, instead of accessing the motor directly, I disconnected the door harness connector and used the wiring schematic to identify the correct circuits to power the motor.

Once you narrow it down to the vehicle or the motor, the real diagnosis begins.

Sorry for the poor audio, but a new alternator is installed on this customer's Nissan. Do yourself a favor and start with an OEM alternator on a Nissan Maxima.
