Our Thursday project was an outrigger reseal as well as some other repairs on this Palfinger crane! We got a call last week from a customer of ours and they stated that they had another branch with a boom that was in need of some repairs, but it was outside of the normal area we cover. They had another company give them an estimate that they were not happy with so they requested us to come do the repairs. We came out and got this outrigger beam disassembled, all cylinders resealed, and all new hoses installed. We also repaired a small crack that was forming on the outrigger channel of the base, and installed new fork pads and other misc repairs. We knocked all of this out in half the time the other shop estimated!

While sometimes people may think having 2 technicians on site will cost more, majority of the time it equals out or actually ends up saving money! With 2 techs we can knock out big projects efficiently, and having an extra set a hands on tricky parts of the jobs makes things go much smoother!

Example: A job may take 1 technician 12 hrs. We can bring 2 technicians and complete the job in say 5hrs. So customer ends up having 2 technicians on site for 5hrs, for a total of 10 hrs billed. And in the end the customer saves some money and has there unit back into operation faster!

We always get asked “Are you guys staying busy” and well… the answer is yes, and today is a perfect example. This morning we were on the road at 4:30am to head to a customer in Richmond Va, who had a new Fassi f390 with some electrical issues. After a few hours on site we got that boom taken care of. While cleaning up the tools, we get a call about a new IMT crane that had error codes and was stuck in the air on site. We were able to walk the operator through manually stowing the boom to get him back to the yard in Upper Marlboro Md where we met him. We ended up finding a wire had pulled out of the connector in an electrical box, so we put a new connector on and re-pinned the wire and got that boom going again! While on site we had a driver come over and mentioned his hose tray was damaged so we went ahead and repaired that as well. Next we headed down the road to Capitol heights Md where we had 3 trucks needing repair. The first truck was a Palfinger boom which had a significant leak around the pressure filter. We found that the hose had came loose, so we disconnected the hose and cleaned the threads then reinstalled with some loctite to prevent it from backing off again. Next we had a Fassi boom with a leak on the outrigger, and after test running it we found that a fitting on the holding valve had a bad seal, so we got that replaced! Finally to finish out the night we had a Palfinger boom that had intermittent PTO engagement issue. We found that the pigtail connector to the PTO solenoid had failed ( a common issue ) so we spliced on a new connector and got that unit wrapped up. Now to finish out the night we enjoy our ride home and should be back home around 10pm. So needles to say we are extremely busy, but we do what needs to be done to keep our customers going and be able to get to everyone in a timely manor! And just note, this is the job list from just one technician today… we have 2 on the road full time!

This Palfinger boom had a few issues going on that we got taken care of under warranty today! First off the boom kept locking out with codes indicating an issue with a danfoss module. After trouble shooting it was found that the main boom module had failed and needed replaced, so we got that swapped out and reprogrammed! The next issue was that the fork cylinder would drift open under load. We performed a test to confirm that the holding valve was good, which meant the issue was caused internally in the cylinder. We got the cylinder disassembled and found one of the piston seals had visible damage. We resealed the cylinder with a fresh seal kit and got this unit back up and running! We do our best to keep parts in stock to limit down time for our customers!

We got a call about a crane that lost hydraulic function while the operator was stowing the boom. After some trouble shooting over the phone it appeared that either lost power or had failed. We arrived this morning prepared to replace the pto, but ended up finding the pigtail harness was melted and the pto solenoid had a bunch of corrosion in the connector. We went ahead and spliced on a new pigtail connector and installed a new pto solenoid and got the boom back to work !

Today we knocked out some tmfl inspections as well as a boom inspection. We found the base on this Hiab boom had 3 cracks in it! This is why it’s important to actually wipe down welds during inspections!!

While quarterly Inspections are not technically required, this here is a perfect example of why we highly recommend them and most of our customers prefer doing them! Yesterday we were on site doing some quarterly inspections on some Palfinger cranes. We found this number 1 extension starting to crack. This is not the first time we have found this exact crack on the same model crane. While we have never personally seen a total failure it is defiantly a possibility, luckily this one was caught in the beginning stages and any catastrophic failure will be prevented!

Yesterday we knocked out resealing the slew barrels on this Fassi boom! The operator had complained of a hydraulic leak under the crane. After test running the boom we found hydraulic oil coming out of the base of the boom. This Indicated that the seals in the slew barrels are bypassing which is then pushing the oil into the base. We got some fresh seal kits in this unit and it’s ready to get back to work!

We now have a fleet of 3 trucks, two of the trucks are running full time and the third truck as a back up truck to ensure our customers are always getting the best service they can! Now it’s time to sit back and grab another gear.. over this next year we are going to ramp things up so we are able to handle a lot more of our customers needs! We can not wait to see what this new year brings 😎

Knocking out a few small repairs on this beautiful Saturday! First we had a hose tray replacement as well as a leak in the knuckle of the boom. Found the leak to be cause by a bad seal on one of the plugs in the extension holding valve. New hose tray and a new seal and the first unit is back in service! Next we have a fork cylinder that was drifting. After disassembling the cylinder we found a few damaged seal which were causing the issue. Fully resealed the cylinder and a fresh holding valve and the 2nd unit is good to go!
