Changes for Carobu Engineering are coming in the new year (2025).
Tate Casey is retiring from day-to-day operational duties. Although Tate will stay in touch as a consultant, the new point of contact will be Christine Wehr (505) 384 2783.

Carobu will cease working on Mercedes cars in the shop (engine work will still be available) and focus on Ferrari repair/tuning.

The Mercedes tuning parts business will be taken over by Tate using the HB Sport name.

Due to the overwhelming response to our Mercedes 560 tuning program, we are struggling to keep up with the demand for work in our small shop. Because we also do Ferrari work which is popular, this makes the situation even worse.

In the future, we will be looking for qualified Mercedes shops who would like to be technical partners with Carobu Engineering. Any shop with an interest in this can contact Tate Casey at 949 378 3226 or email: [email protected].

I was actually thinking of getting off FB because of the volume of sales ads and trash stuff. I receive a lot more of these post than posts from friends’. So I had to change my algorithm. So hold your finger anywhere in this post and click ′copy’. Go to your page where it says ‘What's on your mind?’ Tap your finger anywhere in the blank field. Click paste. This upgrades the system.

We achieved something of a milestone today on the header project. With the V-band clamp flanges on both pipes, we were able to fit them in the car. This is no small task as the fitment is very tight in this area.

From here, the final pipe routing is relatively simple.

As a reminder for new viewers, these are tooling prototype headers only and the finish does not reflect the final product.

We are continuing on making the lower tubes for our 560SL headers. Not an easy task, but after a few iterations, we are getting there. Because our tube sizes are larger diameter than the previous Elbe design, the fit is even more critical.

Carobu's 560 SEC project car has been sold. The happy new owner plans to enjoy driving the car and showing it. This is a unique car, being the prototype for our Mercedes development program.

Previously, we were asked about what kind of power increase we would get with the Ferrari 348 engine. Luckily, we just finished the dyno testing on one. We used the same type of fuel injection set up on this engine that we had previously used on a Ferrari 328 (3.5L). That engine made over 390 HP so we were interested to see how much more power the 348 heads could support.

Some have asked, what about a stage 3 package? To answer this question, we are working on a special, custom fabricated intake manifold for the 560 engines.
In order to simplify the process, we are starting with a stock intake manifold upper portion (see photos).
This is just the beginning of the process.
Our goal is 450 HP using EFI.

We did some additional tuning on the 358RR engine (328 basis) and added a TPS and different injectors. Looks like that did the trick!

The 560SL header project is paused until our TIG welder is repaired.

Looks like the gas flow control valve isn't getting the correct voltage. A thyristor (Q4004L3) on the control board controls this aspect so we are waiting on a replacement part.

The lower pipes on the passenger side are now finalized and ready for the tooling stage.

The focus now shifts back to the driver's side (LHD) and the lower pipes on that side. The fit is even tighter here and a big challenge to fabricate the secondary pipes with V-band clamps.
