We had a great turnout tonight for our Landing Zone Class presented by Acadian AirMed. Representatives from Franklinton Fire, Washington Parish Fire Districts 3, 4, & 8 were there and if I missed any let me know. Our thanks to Franklinton Fire/Rescue for co-hosting this class, and we appreciate the large turnout we had tonight! Our thanks also to Acadian AirMed for bringing the bird out for us to get a close up view and answering our questions. We feel confident that we will be able to assist them should the need arise.

Work Day at Station 2 today. Thanks to everyone who showed up and worked their tails off in the heat! We were able get our pump up and running to refill trucks quickly. We couldn’t have done it without you! Special thanks to Keith Voth for designing this project and securing the parts to make it happen. Also thanks to Terry Pittman for his hard work wiring everything for us. We appreciate you all!!

It's National Volunteer Firefighter Day! - A time to honor .

The dedicated volunteer firefighters in Alabama provide countless hours of services to the citizens and businesses. Volunteers respond to fires, vehicle accidents, medical calls and other emergencies.

National Volunteer Firefighter Day is an opportunity for citizens to say thank you and honor those who are dedicated and use their personal time to protect them. Volunteers are truly unsung heroes that show up in your time of need. Consider stopping by your local to say thank you, donate snacks, water/Gatorade, a meal, etc.

Thank you for your courage, commitment and all you do for your community! You are greatly appreciated! God bless you.

...EXTREME HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 8 PM CDT SATURDAY.....HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM CDT THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...For the Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 109 expected.
For the Extreme Heat Warning, dangerously hot conditions with heat
index values up to 115 expected.

* WHERE...All of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi.

* WHEN...For the Heat Advisory, until 8 PM CDT this evening. For the
Extreme Heat Warning, from 11 AM to 8 PM CDT Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
extreme heat and high humidity events. Hot temperatures and high
humidity may cause heat illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.
