This month nice driving weather and great car shows are a true sign summer is coming or already here. This month we have a great sleek Deserter GT body built on a remanufactured mid-engined GS chassis by Mark Boss.
I really love the effort Mark put into rebuilding this car and it was a challenge and love the way it turned out. Using parts from an original Autodynamics GS chassis he married a portion of the Acme Car Company chassis to repair it and its now stronger than the original. His car also makes use of the VW swing axle transaxle with a standard rotation 140hp Corvair, so cool. This is exactly how many Deserters were built back in the day.
Good for Mark but sad for Deserter GS fans, the green fiberglass parts of this car came from one of the most photographed GS cars on the internet that crashed several years ago. Mark tells me he plans to paint it someday but I’m a fan as it sits now. Bottom line I love this car and look forward to seeing it driving again this weekend at the Manx Club Buggies in the Birkshire event.
As always, if you have any Deserter knowledge, information, photos of cars past or present to share you can reach me (Bim) or Calvin through FB messaging or via email at deserterownersgroup(at)hotmail.com.
As always, best of luck to all and enjoy tinkering, actually working or driving you buggy if you can.
