Well as we head into September our DOG Calendar gives us what I would call a special Deserter GS-1 to ponder.
Any Deserter with the mid-engine GS chassis is unique, rare and collectible with low production numbers but according to Autodynamics records only approximately 110 +/- total GS chassis kits were produced. After 40+ years of documenting these cars only 10 of have been located using the Series One body while 34 have been found with the new at the time (69-72) Deserter GT bodies.
The current owner (and location) of this car is unknown to me and the pics are just things found over the years as it was advertised and changed hands on the internet. This car (D.O.G. GS1-007) was taken apart long ago following some AutoX career and found in the Kansas City area by longtime collectors Mike and Fred. The fiberglass body appears structurally sound with some quality gel coat remaining but the tub clearly needs some work. The engine and tr**ny have never appeared in any photos I have ever seen. With any luck, it hasn’t been painted but cleaned and buffed back to some glory. The short plexi windshield hints that it probably wasn’t a street car and the real bonus is the AD factory ID tag on the chassis tub indicating it left the factory as a true GS kit and produced early in 69.
