A Gale Motors sign — on a barn, just a few miles from the dealership.

The Green family started Gale Motors back in 1953. A Lincoln Mercury dealership on Enfield Street. It ran for 27 years. Gale Toyota carried the name forward, and 73 years later we’re still here.

We had no idea this sign was out there. If anyone knows the story behind it, we’d love to hear it.

Before we were Gale Toyota, we were Gale Motors — a Lincoln Mercury dealership founded by Larry Green right here in Enfield back in 1953.

And on race nights? Car #5 hit the dirt at Riverside Park Speedway — Buddy Krebs behind the wheel of a modified Ford with the Gale Motors name hand-painted on the roof. That’s Suffield Auto Centre on the door too. Local businesses, local drivers, local dirt track. That was Friday night in New England.

A huge thank you to the Schiebel family for bringing this photo in to us — pieces of history like this mean everything.

Three generations later, we’re still here. Still family-owned. Still in Enfield. The cars have changed, but the roots haven’t.

With all the rain lately, it’s a good time to talk about hydroplaning. 🌧️

It happens faster than you’d think — even at 35 mph your tires can start riding on top of the water instead of gripping the road.

A few things that help prevent it:

🪙 Do the penny test — stick a penny in your tread with Lincoln’s head down. If you can see the top of his head, it’s time for new tires.

⛽ Check your tire pressure. It shifts with the weather, and underinflated tires lose grip fast on wet roads.

🚫 Turn off cruise control in the rain. It can work against you on wet pavement.

100 years of Mt. Carmel. 🇮🇹

The Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Italian Festival is back July 30 – Aug 2 at 93 Park Ave. This year marks 100 years of the society keeping those traditions alive — the food, the music, the family atmosphere that started with Italian immigrants who built this town.

Deana Martin headlines Saturday night. Tony Orlando is on the lineup too.

Enfield used to have five post offices — Thompsonville, Hazardville, Scitico, Shaker Station, and Enfield. They consolidated them all into one building at 31 Palomba Drive, right across from us.

By then we’d been at 50 Palomba Drive for about a decade. The building was originally built for Gale Lincoln Mercury in 1975. Gale Toyota moved in from King Street in 1981. Same family, new chapter.

The post office is still there. So are we. Same address, same family — just getting a brand new building.
