The Lady Amber is a week out of Ensenada, where she will be docked for 2 weeks prepping the deck for a fresh layer of paint (which was much needed.) Upon completion, they will be on their way to San Diego for some engineering work, stores and much needed rest.
The crew have done a great job in successfully deploying 30 SPV drifters over nearly 2000 NM.

Today is the birthday of the late Peter Flanagan “Skip.” who founded and operated the Lady Amber project for over a decade, uniting scientific communities from around the world. A man who dedicated his life to making the world a better place, Peter will be remembered through many communities, land and sea alike. All who knew him were inspired by his love for the sea and research. RIP Skip, we hope to continue moving forward in your wake.

Welcome,
Firstly, I would like to thank all those who have helped us get this far.
My father started this project in 2009 to make scientific research more affordable and greener for universities and governments to help improve the collective understanding of our oceans. We have worked all over the world collecting scientific data including Europe, Australia, and Africa. As a sailing vessel, we can travel off the beaten track with a minimal carbon foot print.

Ocean research vessel Lady Amber

This 20 m Schooner is a research vessel with a mission to assist with Ocean Observing and Research Systems through cost-effective deployments of floats and other ocean observing infrastructure. The Lady Amber has successfully been deploying floats and drifters since 2009.

Lady Ambers dedicated purpose is to fill the gap areas between Latitudes 50⁰S and 50⁰N with the exception of official demarcated piracy zones and within the constraints of the cyclone seasons and extreme weather conditions.
