I've been hunting all my life, introduced by my dad as a kid. I've seen all sorts of guns in the woods, and hear about capacities, calibers, quick follow-up second shots. I've had LOTS of comments about my crack barrel single shot guns. I've used and carried pump guns, semi-autos... I will say after 40+ years of observation and practice - 99% of success depends on one shot. On rare occasions while bird hunting, the second shot was even possible, and on deer - unadvised. I've seen exactly ONE deer successfully hit and downed on a quick second try out of an auto loader, and at that, it was a poor hit and challenging recovery.
If you think capacity to sling lead is important - you really need to focus instead on that ONE shot, My ancient crack-barrel 16 ga. shotgun has taken more game for me, and been SO much easier to carry afield than my pump gun or semi-auto. My second-hand NEF .243 crack barrel with a basic Simmons scope is dead-on accurate ALL the time, placing shots exactly where I want them - dropping deer between 30 yards and 200 yards. I have yet to need to track more than 75 yards to recover.
That ONE shot is THE most important - for ethical clean kills - and requires the proper practice and confidence a hunter should carry with them instead of a big gun with lots of lead to spray.
