Pouring of the Plaques - A look at what goes into the "Heroes of Horsepower" bronze plaques that memorialize every inductee at the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America
The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America immortalizes stars from all walks of the sport, preserving and celebrating the legendary bodies of work that made up each of their star-studded paths to the Hall. Appropriately, the bronze plaques that are the physical memorials of each inductee proudly displayed at the MSHFA are true pieces of work in their own right. Here is a look at the detailed process behind how the plaques are made courtesy of our close colleague and supporter Brian Dooley.

Awesome Arrival! Daytona wining 1963 No. 50 Pontiac Tempest is at the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America
This near-perfect recreation of the No. 50 Pontiac Tempest that shocked the racing world with a dominating victory by Paul Goldsmith (MSHFA Class of 2008) in the 250-mile February 16, 1963 American Challenge Cup race at Daytona has been donated to the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America by our friend and board member Roger Rosebush. The Tempest beat Ferrari GTOs, factory Corvette ZO6s and a mass of Porsches at Daytona and in so doing served as the launchpad for the fabled Pontiac GTO later in 1963. You can see the car now at the MSHFA which is open every day on the grounds of DIS.

A Tempest touched down outside of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (MSHFA) at Daytona International Speedway (DIS) today but this force of nature showered nothing but joy and memories on all who heard the big V8 roar of a 1963 Pontiac Tempest Super Duty echo through the World Center of Racing for the first time in nearly 60 years. First start of the 521 HP 421 Super Duty in the exquisite recreation of the long-lost Ray Nichels/Paul Goldsmith #50 Pontiac Tempest that beat the Ferrari GTOs and Corvette ZO6s at Daytona back in '63. Our new favorite soundtrack. (The Time Magazine headline was "Tempest Fugit.") Built by racers Roger Rosebush and the late Jim Luikens, the "Proto-Goat" is heading South to Daytona for arrival Wednesday morning. Come see/hear it in our parking lot by the Tickets & Tours building at the Speedway around 10:30!

".... tomorrow is Easter, you better start coloring the eggs!"
Happy Easter from all of us at the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America! We will be closed Sunday but send all of you a message we heard at this year’s 34th Annual MSHFA Induction Ceremony presented by Toyota Racing: “… tomorrow is Easter, you better start coloring the eggs!” Larry Dixon (MSHFA Class of 2021) worked these words of wisdom into the end of the induction presentation of his former boss and teammate Dick LaHaie (MSHFA Class of 2022) at last month’s ceremony. And Don “The Snake” Prudhomme (MSHFA Class of 1991) is even part of the story! Special thanks to Dean Case and Audrey and Ryan Myrehn who didn’t hesitate to help today and our new fried TJ Keon who did the video slicing and dicing. Happy Easter!

#ICYMI One of the many memorable moments from this month's 34th Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (MSHFA) Induction Celebration presented by Toyota Racing was a Monday afternoon panel with 1985 Indianapolis 500 winner Danny Sullivan (MSHFA Class of 2012) and Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) President Doug Boles. The discussion on the details of Sullivan's "Spin to Win" victory in '85 even delved into a touching and never before told story from Sullivan's earlier years at Indy that helped him survive the famous spin that resulted in his one and only 500 victory. Thanks to Danny, Doug and Vid Monster Productions for the great effort that made for a wonderful afternoon.

Everybody works at the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (MSHFA)! With MSHFA official photog Tommy Miller ready to receive, President George Levy, and Operations Manager Don Cooper, carefully help lift the rear wing for installation on the newest exhibit at the MSHFA, which arrived in a big way Friday. The 1982 World Champion and Gold Cup-winning Atlas Van Lines unlimited hydroplane, driven by inductee Chip Hanauer (MSHFA Class of 1995) and then owned by Fran Muncey (MSHFA Class of 2021), is on loan from the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum. Huge thanks to David Williams, John Goodman and the incredible team at this outstanding museum in Kent, Washington for lending us this prize, and Jim Hyatt who trailered the boat on its more than 3,000 mile journey the MSHFA.

Way cool to host MAVTV and #ThePaceLap host Jessie Punch today at the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America for filming of an upcoming episode airing later this summer when NASCAR returns to Daytona International Speedway. Big thanks as well to NASCAR Productions producers Chris Cook and Morgan Giannone, and Higgy on lead camera, who joined Jessie in knocking out #oneandone #firsttakes all afternoon. Can't wait to see the finished episode later in 2022.

The World Karting Association, which is holding Daytona KartWeek at Daytona International Speedway this week, honored its all-time Daytona winner inside the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (MSHFA) on Monday.
WKA President Kevin Williams presented Randy Fulks with a “Mr. Daytona” trophy, which will be on display with the kart in the museum through March.
“We are celebrating our 48th year at Daytona,” Williams said. “We came to the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America to celebrate a go-kart driver who has won more races at Daytona than anybody we can find on record. He’s up to 59 so far, all on the road course.
“We wanted to display the accomplishments of the driver as well as the karts that are current now compared to what you’ve seen in history. We wanted to applaud the efforts of a grassroots racer, who has done so good here at Daytona.”
The award came as a surprise to Fulks, 67, who hails from Springfield, Illinois. He attended the inaugural KartWeek in 1974 at the age of 20 and has been back most every year since his Daytona debut.
“This is really awesome,” Fulks said. “I had no idea. I had no clue. I was told they wanted me to bring a kart here. I said ‘Sure, I’d love to lend them a kart for display.’ Then, all this happened. It was quite a shock. If we wreck our other kart, I told them I would have to come back and get this one. We can have this one race ready in about 90 minutes.”
Daytona KartWeek started Dec. 28 and will run through Dec. 30. Williams said he expects more than 2,000 go-karts to compete on three separate tracks.
“WKA and Daytona have a very special place in the karting community,” Williams said. “We keep that going every single year.”
MSHFA President George Levy was delighted to welcome the WKA into the museum for the “Mr. Daytona” celebration. The MSHFA had two go-karts on permanent display.
“The WKA wanted to have the ceremony here and we could not be happier and more proud to do it,” Levy
People ask us how the beautiful bronze plaques of every Hall of Famer get made. The answer for about five years now has been the incomparable Gabriel Vinas. We can only show you part of his work on Class of 2021 inductee John Cobb because no one gets to see the finished plaques until they're unveiled at the Heroes of Horsepower event that's part of every induction. As yyou can see, Gabe is an exceptionally gifted sculptor. We are incredibly grateful for his work. #heroesofhorsepower #motorsportshof #MSHF #daytonabeach #daytonainternationalspeedway #visitflorida
Appearing daily at the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America on the grounds of Daytona International Speedway: Jim Bartel's jaw-dropping "knee high" Shadow Mk.I. No, not as it appeared at the first Can-Am race in 1970. How it was originally designed by the brilliant Trevor Harris under the auspices of Shadowman Don Nichols, using a system of five air brakes to assist the tiny brakes in the tiny front wheels. If you ask nicely, one of the docents will demonstrate the air brakes for you, as seen in this great Thomas A. Miller Photography gif.
