After nearly a year of searching nationwide, test driving dozens of 987, 981 and 982 Caymans and Boxsters, researching and endlessly discussing options, and passing on a couple cars that weren’t quite right, we finally found our unicorn! This Sapphire Blue 2015 Cayman GTS is ours, and more specifically, is ’s new race car. It just so happens to be A-Street competitive and we’ll be taking advantage of having a class-competitive car for once. #981

Transmission swap complete. Despite some whining bearings, the gearbox is tight, shifts well, and the synchros are in decent shape I should be able to make it last through the year until I can get my hands on a built transmission.

Nothing quite like that last minute tear-your-semi-functioning-race-car apart-before-race-weekend. Ended the weekend with the car scattered across the garage… Hoping to get this second donor transmission in tonight and find it is in better shape than the last one. 🤞🏻 All hands on deck to get this car back together… keeping me fed and helping me push forward on this and stay caught up with work. stopped by today to mount my tires - huge time saver!

A very special new addition to the fleet! This beauty is a loaded 2018 Macan Sport Edition in Sapphire Blue. After 14 months of test driving nearly every Crossover and Compact SUV in search of a sporty and luxury replacement for the Forester (and the Mazdaspeed 3) we fell in love with the Macan. It strikes the perfect balance of performance, emotion, luxury and utility for a secondary DD and road trip car. Surprisingly the ONLY other car that came remotely close was the Mazda CX-5 Turbo, but that’s a story for another day. Huge thanks to my wife for not only supporting my car passion, but joining all the test drives, debating the options with me, and encouraging me to get what I really want. My grandma also had some solid feedback and support to a bit. ❤️

The view everyone has except for me. Thanks for taking video from the sidelines. The donor transmission is unfortunately on the brink of failure and struggled to get the car in gear all day… Definitely needs a rebuilt transmission over winter.

Almost 6 weeks later and the transmission is finally getting swapped out. I’ve been so busy with consulting work that there was no chance I’d get this car running by the end of the year by myself… Huge thanks to for not only picking up a used NB 5-speed transmission an hour away from home in Seattle, but driving it down to Portland the following weekend! Now it’s in the hands of .motorsports.pdx to get the car rolling under its own power again.

I forget the exact saying about bringing tools and things won’t break, but I can certainly tell you it did not work out that way this weekend. 😅 I’ve been fortunate enough to that in 7 years of driving to events, I’ve always been able to drive the car home. This was my second time hauling the with the new truck and trailer setup, and I really needed it... The third launch from the line today was the end of the original transmission. 80k miles, 15+ years of while powered by the FMII kit, which add up to thousands of harsh launches on sticky tires. Not a bad run. Despite the abrupt end to the day today, the weekend was a blast. I appreciate the help pushing me back to the trailer and finishing out the day in other cars - thanks Jack, Grant and Eli! Hopefully I can find a transmission and get it in the car soon to not miss out on the limited number of events the rest of the season. 🤞🏻Anyone have a healthy spare 5 speed? 😬

I vividly remember riding along with Jared in his SSM RX7 when I started 7 years ago and being left in awe, wanting to be at that level one day. It’s crazy to think about how things have changed! Although it would have been nice to make it to the National Tour this weekend, I was still able to have some competitive fun this Sunday with a 0.201 second spread between top 1-3 top raw times. 😊 Note: I didn’t snap many pictures, so the split screen screenshot from a 5 year old YouTube video will have to do. 🤷🏼‍♂️

A full week late due to travelling for work, but finally got them posted. Fastest runs from the 6/19-6/20 weekend at Shelton are up! I was able to push this car to the limit on my first runs and not leave much on the table for my following runs. I'm quite comfortable with the new setup. 😎

My fastest run from Sunday at ORP - the run that set me 4.155 seconds ahead of the second fastest car on 200tw "street" tires. 😎 Placed 4th in RAW overall, 4th in PAX overall, and 2nd in the PAX'd NSX Superclass. I cleaned up my lines and shift points in the afternoon, but I was exhausted and couldn't keep my pace in the fast sections. It was a great end to the weekend and I am happy with the new suspension and tires.

You may notice my cell phone flying across the car right off the start line. I normally stow it away in the center console. It was not a distraction and decision making process I was expecting off the line... By the first corner the phone settled down and I decided to keep going for it - it's not like I could ask for a redo. 😅 Luckily the phone survived the ride along.

Day 2 of my second autocross event at Oregon Raceway Park with all new suspension and tires - what a difference... The car felt great and my confidence pushi...
