🚸 Back-to-School Safety: Slow Down in School Zones! 🚸

As a new school year begins, let’s all do our part to keep students safe. Whether you’re a parent, student, or commuter—these safety tips matter:

🔹 Slow Down – Always obey posted school zone speed limits. Children are unpredictable—drive with extra caution.

🔹 No Distractions – Stay off your phone. A moment of distraction can lead to tragedy.

🔹 Watch for Crosswalks – Yield to crossing guards and students. Never block crosswalks.

🔹 Stop for Buses – It’s the law: stop when school buses have flashing red lights and the stop arm is extended.

🔹 Follow Drop-Off Rules – Each school has specific procedures. Be patient and respectful of staff and other parents.

🔹 Be Alert for Bicyclists and Pedestrians – Especially in early mornings and afternoons when visibility and traffic are at their peak.

🔹 Leave Earlier – School traffic can slow your routine—leaving a few minutes early reduces stress and prevents risky behavior.

Tow op down – David Zapata, 46, owner-operator of Steel Towing, Mercedes, TX, was fatally struck by the roadside in a hit-and-run near Harlingen, TX. The suspect was later arrested. "He was standing outside his tow truck, securing another vehicle in the shoulder lane."

LATEST NEWS: DPS, Neighboring States Team Up in Joint Enforcement Operation

This Wednesday, May 14, the Texas Department of Public Safety will team up with the Arkansas State Police, Louisiana State Police, New Mexico State Police and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol to conduct a joint one-day enhanced enforcement operation. The collaborative effort will focus on the Move Over, Slow Down law and finding drivers who violate the law.

Since Nov. 1, 2017, Texas DPS has had 142 crashes involving stationary DPS patrol vehicles, resulting in 46 Trooper injuries and two Trooper deaths.

Moving over or slowing down could mean the difference between life and death. Please do your part: Move Over or Slow Down.

Crane Texas community, please help one of our own local Deputies and his family.

Deputy Kendal Hartman's newborn was diagnosed with SVT (Supraventricular Tachycardia) and has been at Lubbock's Children's Hospital seeking treatments for the past month.

The Crane County Sheriff's Office will be hosting a hamburger FUNDRAISER, on Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 11am to 1pm at the Crane County Law Enforcement Center located at 464 NW Truck Route in Crane Texas.
