Texas State Aquarium

Texas State Aquarium

In response to public health concerns about coronavirus (COVID-19), the Texas State Aquarium will be temporarily close to the public beginning today, March 17 at 5 p.m CST through April 1, reopening April 2.

The health and safety our guests, employees, volunteers, and animals are, as always, of the utmost importance to us, and in accordance with city, state, and health expert recommendations and the latest developments, we feel it is our responsibility to do what we can to slow the spread of COVID-19.

We understand this closing comes at a disappointment to many who were planning a trip to the Aquarium – and we’re disappointed too. Until we can welcome you back, we’ll do our best to share photos and stories to keep you connected with our incredible and inspiring animals and the staff that care for them. We’ll also provide updates on our ongoing efforts in wildlife rescue, education, and conservation.

Throughout the closure, some staff will remain on-site to look after our animals and critical systems. Staff that remain on-site will continue to follow Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations including frequent handwashing and social distancing, and the Aquarium will be continually and thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. We will continue to monitor the situation and follow guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO), the CDC, as well as other federal, state and local authorities.

For the latest updates, please stay tuned here on our social media pages or on our website at

Thank you for your continued support of the Texas State Aquarium and our mission to engage people with animals, inspire appreciation for our seas and support wildlife conservation. We look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Thinking about all of you and hope you escaped the worst of Harvey!
Any word yet on damage to the park? We left our RV down there, but were able to evacuate our son, Trevor Schmidt.
Just an overnight stay. Kitty was very helpful. Spots are a bit close together. Disappointed they no longer participate in Passport America.
