what started out as my first project and is currently owning 2 rare GMC pickups. There has been a good response from sharing the photo of my 58, so I will start sharing that one as well. Thank you for the support and enjoyment you express on my photos!! This truck originally began it's life as a 1957 GMC 100 with a 6 cyl, hydromatic transmission, and a small window. I purchased the truck in 2003 w
ith the idea of just making a rat rod. After having the truck for about 6 months, I came across a 1956 big window GMC. That was when the real project began. My father and I began the rebirth of what you see now. We installed a 76 Camaro front clip and rear end to improve the safety and comfort. All of the body work and paint was done by Rodney Belt with Rodneys Rods and Restos in Conroe. Ophelia is powered by a chevy 350 with turbo 350 transmission. The front bumper is a factory 1956 GMC bumper with 1956 Cadillac dagmars welded together. It currently sports a 1964 factory flat bed with a fold down canopy to protect from the Texas heat. The side mirrors are from a 1960 International truck. The interior sports seats from a 2003 mercedes sport. My dad and I built this truck to be a daily driver and since we got it on the road in February I've put about 11,000 miles on it. The best trip was a visit to the Grand Canyon for July 4th weekend. Me and the wife drove in Ophelia and my parents drove in my dads 1964 C10, also a daily driver.
*update to the ongoing project*
The flatbed was on loan from my dad and I always actually wanted my truck to be a fleetside. After having multiple sets of bedsides worked to make a good set, Dynacorn started reproducing the bedsides. The bedsides are currently being worked with the addition of a few modifications to keep it custom. We went with a one off custom tailgate representing the correct 56 GMC script, with hidden latches. We also added a metal bed floor from a 67 chevy truck for durability with wider inner fenders. Rodney hand built a custom piece at the front of the bed to match the curve of the cab. Also, during the bed construction phase we c-notched the frame in the back and flipped the axle to give the truck a more leveled stance and added some Torque Thrust II's (18x8 in the front and 20x10 in the rear)
