Yesterday was a pretty long day. With time on my side I decided to take another stab at resolving the severe oil loss. It seems that I’m pumping more in than I’m sucking out. It was my hope that the destroyed can shim may have gotten into my scavage pump and sheared the tiny key that holds the gear and was causing me to not return back as much as my feed pump is putting in.
So I consulted with Massey Bick and Ron Kesselring and they both confirmed that the pump cover could be removed but it’s tight. Unfortunately I upgraded the pump which lowered it and just barely kept it from removing. Strategically situated next to a hardware store I made frame spreader using a bolt, washer, nut and piece of pipe. This is a genius little jack that Kurt Klokkenga uses on his rigids for changing tires on the road. (I’m sure he has a picture of us).
Well, the key was fine and no trash in the gears so back together it went. Fortunately I had the help and advice of every bass pro shop patron that came by. Rode a couple hours down the road and settled in to Hardy, Arkansas on the Spring River after noticing I lost one of my fuel caps. Thankfully not a real one. If you are ever in the area stop at Bigger’s Inn. Unbelievable food and lodging with one of the prettiest views of the spring river. Can’t wait to float it. I’ve been told they have a floating stripper pole and mini bars along the way.
