They told him to go to a body shop.
He drove 4 hours anyway.
His car — a pearl white three-stage paint — had a dent that every shop near him turned down. One offered to “make it better” for $450, with a warning it wouldn’t be perfect and they’d need to drill a hole. He passed.
He didn’t want his car painted. He didn’t want a door replaced. He didn’t want “better.” He wanted it fixed.

🔧 PDR on a Mercedes-Benz? Yes. And Here’s Why It’s the Right Call.

November Hailstorm Damage: What We're Seeing Downtown

We're showing you the hidden hail damage from the November 17th hailstorm that affected the downtown Columbia area, including Columbia College and the Arcade District. We inspect an Honda HRV that appears fine at first glance but reveals hundreds of tiny dents when examined with proper lighting. We explain what to look for, we are seeing damage estimates ranging from $5,000-$7,000, and invite viewers to bring their vehicles in for inspection if they suspect similar damage.

Real talk from the shop this week. 👇

A customer came in for a hail damage estimate on her Honda HRV. We went over everything, I gave her a fair estimate, we scheduled the repair, and she was excited to get it done.

Then she called her insurance company.

Their rep told her that Columbia Dent Company wasn’t on their “preferred list” — and that if something went wrong, she could have to pay out of pocket for additional repairs, or the warranty might not be covered.

She called me back upset and confused, ready to cancel.

Here’s the truth I had to explain to her (and her husband):

✅ Insurance companies don’t provide repair warranties. The shop does.
✅ “Not on our preferred list” just means I’m an independent PDR specialist — not a full-service body shop.
✅ Their “preferred” shops would call me to do the PDR work anyway and take 30% off the top.
✅ She has every right to choose where her car gets fixed.

She kept her appointment. Her car’s getting fixed right. And she’s only paying her deductible.

This happens more than it should. Insurance companies use “preferred network” language to steer you toward shops they have financial arrangements with — not necessarily the best shop for your car.

You have rights. Know them.
