Little Water Woodworks is a one man shop owned and operated by me, Ford Prather. The name is derived from the Agua Chiquita River that flows through the Sacramento Mountains of New Mexico where I live.
I come from a family full of creative artists, musicians, and skilled craftsman. I grew up on a cattle and sheep ranch. Living on a ranch meant that you had to be handy and fix or build things. It's a long ways to town to just buy a new one. Building things was also a source of entertainment. I was interested in carving as a kid, and as I a teen I got interested in metal work. I couldn't help but make stuff and learn new skills.
I attended New Mexico State University, graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Survey Engineering, and then started work as a land surveyor. During that period I did not spend much time making things. After about four years of not using my creative skills, I realized that something was missing in my life. That something was using my hands, my skills and my creative nature to build things.
I enjoy making a large variety of things from cutting boards, hand crafted heirloom boxes, children's toys, furniture, bookcases, and other home decor items.
If you have any questions about my work, would like to commission a custom piece, or just want to say hello, please send me a message through the contact page.
