Aspendale Mountain Retreat Center

Who We Are Aspendale Mountain Retreat Center began its ministry in the spring of 1958 when the El Paso Baptist Association purchased 123 acres located five miles from Cloudcroft, New Mexico. For over 55 years we have provided amazing experiences in the beauty of the Sacramento mountains. Statement of Faith As a Christian organization, we want our guests to understand that the primary purpose of Aspendale Baptist Encampment is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our goal is to strengthen the body of Christ through biblical education, worship, fellowship, and recreational activities. Our policies and guidelines are established to support that purpose.

Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more

A big thank you to those who have been using the Amazon Smile program when shopping. We received our first deposit from that this week. If you are not familiar with the program, here is a copy of a post we did a while back about it:

We often are asked about ways that individuals can help the camp. one simple way is by doing something you are already doing: shopping at Amazon. If you shop through smile.amazon.com, they will donate a percentage of qualifying purchases to the camp. It's not a huge percentage, but the more individuals that take this small step, the greater the impact on helping us to impact our guests with the beauty of God's creation, as they grow closer to the Creator. Check it out, and make sure you use smile.amazon.com. It does not work, if you just shop at amazon.com or on the app.

Online shopping from the earth's biggest selection of books, magazines, music, DVDs, videos, electronics, computers, software, apparel & accessories, shoes, jewelry, tools & hardware, housewares, furniture, sporting goods, beauty & personal care, broadband & dsl, gourmet food & just about anything e...

Just saw that Amazon is multiplying their Amazon Smiles donations to 5% until today. So, if you place Amazon orders through smile.amazon.com, you can choose a non-profit organization (Aspendale Baptist Encampment, perhaps? 😉), and they will donate .5% of your purchase amount to that charity. Ending today, they are doing 5%.

! ! MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES ! !
We have a number of ministry opportunities up here at the camp. Specifically, we need a gas dryer for one of our staff cabins, as well as a gas stove. The dryer is the higher priority, though.

We also are organizing a camp work day for the Saturday before Memorial Day. If interested, contact the camp office for more details.

Additionally, we still have a few openings for summer staff. The online application is available here (https://form.jotform.com/72825064203147). Specifically, we need some additional staff for our recreation areas and in our kitchen. If interested, use the online application, contact us through Facebook, or call the office at 575-252-0114.

Ministry Opportunities -
We have a number of ministry opportunities for those who would like to be more involved with Aspendale, or would just like to know more about our ministry. We have much work to be done around the camp for groups small and large, and we would be happy to host your group for a work weekend. We also have some specific needs for skilled individuals. Particularly, right now we could use some help with our camp network, to ensure better coverage for our guests.
We also have a few more positions for our summer ministry team this year. We are looking for a few more individuals to help in the kitchen, recreation, and guest services areas. Contact us today and let us see how we can work together to serve our guests in a way that will bring glory to God and His work through Aspendale.

Weatherman is calling for snow🌨️ today, pray we get some! We have a couple of groups this weekend who are really hoping for some good sledding snow. 🛷

Still waiting for some snow this year. We've gotten some, but it keeps melting before we have much time to enjoy it. Hopefully we can get some more to enjoy in January and February. We are working on some new ideas for this year, and will be doing a special dinner in March. More details to come soon. Stay tuned!

Recently came across a post about #GivingTuesday. Not being familiar with it, I did some research. Essentially, it is a movement to make the Tuesday after Thanksgiving a national day of giving. After the craziness of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, they felt we needed to focus on giving back. So, the movement is to promote giving (financially or otherwise) to non-profits, especially on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. We never want to beg for donations. We believe that God will meet our needs, if we are being good stewards of our resources and being effective in our ministry. However, if you would like to partner with us, either financially or otherwise, consider making tomorrow that day. We thank you for partnering with us, and allowing us the opportunity to serve you this past year. God bless!

Happy Thanksgiving!
Recently, I (William Callister) was reading a book on prayer, and the author offered an anecdotal reference to the importance of giving thanks. He shared the story of Corrie ten Boom, during her stay in a WW2 prison camp, for helping Jews escape. Her sister challenged her to remain thankful for all things, right down to the fleas that infested their housing. In time, the sisters attracted a large number of prisoners to gather together to read a Bible that had been smuggled in. Corrie was always afraid the guards would come in and catch them, but they never did. One night, she mentioned this to another prisoner. That woman pointed out that the guards rarely came into the dormitory, because they were repelled by the fleas. So, on this formal day of thanksgiving, may we take time to give thanks for all things, even if we cannot see the benefit at the time. We never know how God may use even the most terrible of circumstances. God bless!

We have made some updates to our fee structure here at the camp. Our goal was to simplify the system to make it easier for groups to estimate their costs. As such, it has also allowed us to more easily create an online form that enables guests to submit their reservation requests right online through our website (www.aspendale.org). It is still a work in progress. We still need to do some of the confirmation step manually, but we are confident that it will streamline the process a bit. Check it out and let us know what you think.

We want to thank those who responded to our survey about new program ideas. We got a little under 20 responses. It's not a lot, but it is not bad for our first use of the tool. It definitely helps us to get a grasp on what people are interested in. Stay tuned as we begin looking at ways to use the information. Congratulations to Codie Cauthen Ray, whose name was drawn as the winner of a free camp shirt! Thanks again to all those who responded.

We've been getting some pics of all the work our volunteers did, but we wanted to share it with our guests coming to the chili cook-off🌶️ and prayer walk🙏 on Saturday. Pics of the volunteers' hard work and the prayer walk will be coming next week. In the mean time, let us know if you are planning on coming to the prayer walk and chili cook-off on Saturday. It helps us to make sure we have enough food and drinks for everyone🥣🥤. We look forward to seeing you there. God bless!
