Today, we celebrate Juneteenth. You may have also heard Jubilee Day, Emancipation Day, Freedom Day, or Black Independence Day.
Although the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective in 1863, freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the 250,000 plus enslaved black people in the state were FINALLY FREE by executive decree.
As a Black Owned business... we are grateful for the progress we have made as a PEOPLE but still have a long way to go.
