Freedom Sailing began with an invitation.
After serving in Afghanistan with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Josh returned home carrying the effects of combat in ways he did not yet fully understand. The open water had long offered him a sense of relief, but learning to sail gave him something more: a role, a crew, and a place where trust and teamwork mattered again.
When Josh invited a fellow veteran aboard and witnessed the peace the experience brought him, the purpose of Freedom Sailing came into view. What had helped Josh find his own bearings was never meant to end with him.
In 2018, he founded Freedom Sailing with a simple belief at its center: together, we are strong.
Today, as a certified Master Captain, Josh remains at the helm of a mission built to give veterans, first responders, and their families more than a day on the water. It offers community, renewed purpose, and a crew that understands no one should have to navigate the journey home alone.
