Big project completed last week at our local farmers market 🌳

A massive oak tree that had unfortunately died became a safety concern and needed to be removed carefully and efficiently. We were proud to partner with our friends at Steel Roots Tree Services LLC to safely bring it down while protecting the surrounding property and preserving the character of the market.

One unique part of this project — the customer chose to leave the stump tall for a future art project, giving this old oak a chance to continue serving the community in a new and creative way. 🎨🪵

We’re thankful to have had the opportunity to work alongside great local businesses like Bulverde Market Day and continue serving the community as a family-owned and operated company since 2001. 🌿🤝

You look at a giant oak tree and naturally think, “That thing came from the ground.”
But stop and really think about it.
Most of what became that massive trunk, those branches, and every leaf overhead didn’t come from the dirt at all. It came from the invisible world around us — the air, the water, and sunlight. Cell by cell, year by year, the tree pulled carbon from the atmosphere and built itself out of something you can’t even hold in your hand.
A tree isn’t really made of dirt.
It’s made from the sky.

And then consider...

By mass, the human body is also mostly made from “sky and water,” with only a surprisingly small amount coming from the earth itself.
Approximate breakdown of the human body by weight:
~65% Oxygen
(mostly from water we drink and oxygen bound into molecules)
~18% Carbon
(originally pulled from the atmosphere by plants through photosynthesis)
~10% Hydrogen
(mostly from water)
~3% Nitrogen
(from proteins built through the nitrogen cycle)
That means roughly:
~93% of the human body is made from air + water derived elements
Only about ~7% comes from minerals traditionally thought of as “earth”: calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, sodium, magnesium, iron, zinc, etc.
So in a very real sense:
Trees are built mostly from the atmosphere.
Humans are built mostly from the atmosphere too.
We eat plants (or animals that ate plants), drink water, breathe oxygen, and slowly assemble ourselves from the same global cycle. The “solid” world around us is mostly rearranged air, captured temporarily into living form.
