Here in Las Vegas at the Kia booth in the North Hall - displaying some fun takes on autonomous driving cars - note that do not have steering wheels and are focused entirely on what we can do with our time if we were not involved driving our cars - interestingly, whilst all vehicles feature technology and communication equipment - these glimpses into a possible future focus on the leisure aspect of life without us driving our vehicles...

Utah Motorsports Campus - Pirelli World Challenge TCA race 2 - Kia Racing's version of Michael Phelps, the Mount Vernon Ohio native Jason Wolfe continued his "top step of the podium" performance with another win - this takes him to an amazing record of being unbeaten in 8 races at this track !
Team mate Kris Wright in the Kia red #35 who started 7th ran a very respectable race to finish 5th and well within striking distance of a podium had the cards fell the right way.
Once again Crew Chief Chris Brook and car chief David Palmissano prepped the cars to allow the drivers to fully utilize their capabilities and show their professionalism once again- thanks guys. ! What a weekend 2 wins out of 2 races. - Kia Racing rules !

Utah Motorsports Complex - ( formally Miller Motorsports Park) - after a hiatus from racing for a few events due to work commitments, defending TCA champion of 2014 and 2015 came back and more than made up for his absence from the track. After qualifying P5, Wolfe set about reeling-in the gaggle of Mazdas in front of him- each lap yielded another victim until he was in P1 and having to work hard to keep 2nd place behind him. With one lap to go and a set of Front tires screaming to be treated better, Jason finished the race in 1st place and set the fastest lap ( which puts him on pole for the second race tomorrow). Many congrats again to the machine - swimming has Phelps, Kia Racing has Jason Wolfe - keep bringing home the gold !

COTA - Austin Tx - well a second in the first race and now a win in the second - that's a pretty good weekend's work....!
Jason drove a superb, mature race and came under constant attack from a brace of Mazdas. They got the better of him a couple of times, but each time, he sat back and watched them fight amongst themselves and then capitalized on their distraction. The fuel bobble occurred again and looking at the data, happened 200 meters further on from the first race and the finish was Jason's by no more than two feet - several small seizures occurred on pit lane with the staff until Jason was declared the winner ! Well done Jason

COTA - race 1 and our champ for the last two years carried on as he left off last season - with a podium. He was leading right up until the last couple of corners when a fuel pick up problem caused him to fall back - 2nd place is good, but not when you thought you had 1st in the bag - it's never over until it's over..... Thanks Jason and well done.
Kris Wright had a problem with his engine and that side lines him about half way through the race- tough day for the sophomore driver.
Race 2 is tomorrow ......

Circuit of The Americas - Austin Texas.... Well after a long winter break we are back here at the race track with familiar sights, sounds and smells of the race track - argh, nothing better !
Cars ran their practice day Thursday and had good pace and this morning ( in the chilly Texan morning air) the turbos were singing eagerly. First race is in a few hours and we start third and sixth on the grid!
Wish us luck !

Just ahead of the start of our 7th season racing Kia race cars - we were visiting a Kia dealer in North Carolina rolling out our Accessories program (www.kineticdealers.com) we met a real Kia enthusiast - Geroge Welcome (Bob King Kia) designs and builds really detailed RC aircraft and flies them at events all over the country - what was super cool is that George took the time to combine his work and hobby by designing the livery of the plane to match our race cars - notice the white stripe on the side, the Pirelli logo and of course our #10 car number (to represent Kia's 10yr warranty). This plane has a 10 foot wingspan and a 50cc gas engine and a 40oz fuel cell - he can fly this plane for upto 30 mins at a time - a really cool and novel way to combine his work and play - thanks for sharing with us !

Optima race car driver Mark Wilkins was recently interviewed by Matt Kistler of North American Sportscar website (NASportscar.com) and posed 10 questions to him - enjoy !

Mark Wilkins, driver of the #38 Kia Optima in Pirelli World Challenge’s GTS class and the Mantella Autosport Chevy Camaro Z28.R in CTSCC’s GS class answers our 10 questions.

Matt: Pirelli World Challenge had many changes for the 2015, one of them being the splitting of GTS and GT. How did you feel it went with GTS getting their own show?

MW: I think it was a stellar season overall for the Pirelli World Challenge. With the addition of the GT3 spec cars to the GT class and the growth of GTS, it was clear that splitting the classes was a must. Honestly, I really enjoyed racing with the GT cars. The multi class racing really added to the character of the races and I always found they increased the level of complexity and challenge. That being said, GTS really deserved its own show and I felt we, as a class, really delivered some excellent racing for the fans. It certainly changed the dynamic of the races, with far fewer cautions overall throughout the season and no real traffic to contend with. All in all, the new format yielded more seat time for drivers and more racing for the fans.

Matt: It’s looking like we’ll see an influx of GTS entries for 2016. As a long time competitor in the class, what are your thoughts on the growth of the class?

MW: I’m not surprised to hear about an influx of new entries for 2016. The GTS class makes a great deal of sense not only from a cost perspective but the class delivers great racing, a stellar mix of driving talent and a huge variety of eligible race cars. It’s a great recipe for success.

Matt: GTS is allowing more and more GT4 cars. How do you feel about the shift from the traditional GTS cars to GT4?

MW: I think one of the great features of the GTS class is the wide variety of cars eligible. Putting cars like the front wheel drive Kia Optima up against cars like the Porsche Cayman, Aston Martin Vantage or Ford Mustang makes for exciting racing. Each car excels in different areas and at different circuits which makes for a great show. I think fans appreciate the variety and like seeing the diversity on track.

Matt: Some odd-ball cars are expected like the SIN SR1 GT4 and Reiter Engineering’s KTM X-Bow GT4. What are your initial thoughts on having those types of cars allowed?

MW: I’m not sure how I feel about these cars yet. My first concern is safety and what happens if a big car like the Kia Optima or Ford Mustang gets into one of these smaller cars or vice versa. Secondly, I think it will be a challenge to come up with the correct balance of performance for these cars as they compare to the traditional cars in the class. These cars have excellent weight distribution, aero advantages and will be quite easy on the tires. I would image they will suffer in straight-line performance in comparison to some of the traditional cars. We’ll have to wait and see.

Matt: You also race in CTSCC with Mantella Autosport. How similar are CTSCC’s GS class and PWC’s GTS class?

MW: The eligible cars themselves are quite similar between the classes but beyond that, they differ fairly quickly. The obvious differences are race format, sprint vs. endurance. GTS is one driver with 50 minute sprint races versus two drivers and two hour thirty minute races with pit stops. The tire is very different overall between the Pirelli and the Continental not only in compound but sizing as well. The way the car drives on the tire is quite different in feel and grip level. For myself, jumping back and forth between the Optima and the Camaro, front wheel drive vs. rear wheel drive was always a big difference in feel and driving style.

Matt: Was it difficult to switch between the Kia and Camaro?

MW: It always took a couple of laps to get back in the groove of either car. I’d say half of the challenge was the difference in front drive versus rear wheel drive and the other half the difference in the tire between the Pirelli and the Continental. I’d say, I was more at home in the Kia given that I spent four years in that car from early development to maturity. Both cars were extremely confidence inspiring and I really enjoyed racing both platforms.

Matt: What can you tell us about your 2016 plans?

MW: I’m working hard at securing my 2016 plans and hope to be back in both paddocks!

Matt: When you are away from the paddock, how do you relax?

MW: On race weekends, I always try to find some quiet time to sit down and visualize the track. Typically, i’ll find a quiet corner of the hauler away from the noise. In the hours leading up to a race, I always make sure to eat and get in some stretching. I’ve been racing for a long time, but I still get nervous right before a race. I haven’t found a remedy for this yet but I always feel it’s a good precursor to getting focused and ready to perform at my best.

Matt: Favorite track and why?

MW: Road Atlanta, no question! One word, flow. I love the layout of this circuit. It has a great rhythm and you can roll big speed. Growing up around and learning race craft at Mosport makes you really appreciate speed roller tracks. I do love Mosport as well and it’s a close second for me.. I appreciate the variety of corners that Road Atlanta offers and especially the esses.

Matt: If you could drive any race car from any era, what would it be and why?

MW: I would really love to drive one of the new hybrid P1 cars. The Porsche would be number one but I love the Audi as well. I really appreciate the technology in these cars and the performance envelope is incredible. I love how the development of the technology will filter down to our future road cars.

Salt Lake City Ut- high altitude, fine sunshine, some silky driving and a little bit of luck all combined to make for a successful weekend for the Kia Racing GTS Optima drivers in the latest round of the Pirelli World Challenge races. Saturday's race began with Canadian Mark Wilkins starting from pole position with his team mate Ben Clucas beside him in second place. Mark and Ben both got off to a tremendous start and ran one two for a number of laps. Ben's tires began to fade a little sooner than Mark's and he managed a very respectable 4th in the first race. Mark led from start to finish but was under intense pressure from the Porsche Cayman in the closing laps- Mark didn't buckle and delivered the team (and himself) the first win of the year - long time coming !!
Sunday's race began with Mark in third and Ben in fourth and both guys had good starts with Ben battling to the front by the end of the first lap. Many dueling laps later the race ended with Ben in third and Mark in fifth as both their tires went away in the closing quarter of the race. One win, one third- two podiums - we will take it ! Roll on Sonoma next weekend !

First off - big apologies for not posting for a while - race schedule has been hectic...blah blah.....anyway- we have just finished a successful weekend at the Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City Utah.
The Forte Koups had an outstanding round with last year's driver champion, Jason Wolfe winning all three of his races and rookie Kris Wright scoring his first podium with a great third place. Canadian rookie Samantha Tan a bit to be outdone as she collected a hard charger award for making up the greatest number of places against her competitors.
Jason goes into the final race weekend of the season in September at Laguna Seca in the driver points lead and is tantalizingly close to repeat last year's championship title. Kris Wright could also wind up with Rookie of the year as well - so our second year ladder program to help youngsters develop their skills is bearing more fruit. We will post more videos shortly, but enjoy some photos ...

Jealousy or rivalry ? - you- the- race- fans decide - in what looks like a slight on British racing team-mate Ben Clucas, Mark Wilkins snapped by paparazzi was caught mid sentence describing the similarities between the sizes of extinct dinosaur brains and that of his teammate's Clucas. - ouch !
Is this healthy in a team or can this hostility cause deep hurt ???
Please advise Kinetic Management how they should deal with this aggression........... Happy 4th.

Road America WS race 2 in the Pirelli World Challenge GTS was a good one for Kia Racing- Ben Clucas took advantage of every opportunity presented to him to battle to a second place spot on the podium after running a clean and clever race. Teammate Mark Wilkins had an equally good race and was in contention for the third step on the podium right up until the last lap when he finally was passed by the Porsche of Jack Baldwin in a tight race that saw the two drivers battle all race !
Great job guys 2nd and 4th - we will take it !

Road America - GTS Optima race 1 - Mark had an amazing race and pulled off another podium visit - 3rd place behind the Porsche and Aston Martin (1st). On the last lap, he made a calculated move into turn one and picked off the Ford Mustang of Andrew Aquilante.....Ben sustained a flat right rear tire and had to come into the pits for a new shoe, which sent him to the back of the field.
With a clear track ahead of him, he managed to execute some great laps to allow him to qualify 4th for tomorrows race and our podium boy, Mark will start 9th. - not great, but he saved his tires and gained a podium - we are not complaining......

Road America Pirelli World Challenge TC-A race 1 - well, all three cars were involved in incidents in the first race - hammers have been wailed, fenders replaced and some polishing fluids will be applied to bring our Koups back to fighting form - results were not great, but we will be making the next two races........
