This case was particularly egregious: a customer reported that a fuel pump replacement performed by an auto repair shop resulted in a fuel leak. Initially, I suspected that the fuel pump ring had not been properly secured, which proved to be correct. Not only did the shop charge the customer for subpar work, but they also returned the vehicle in a dangerous condition, leaking fuel. The customer drove the car home and contacted us, describing the situation. These vehicles require dropping the fuel tank to perform service on the tank itself. However, instead of following proper procedures, the shop chose to remove the seat and create a hole in the back seat area to access the fuel pump. They then left the area unrepaired, covering it with heat tape and the back seat cushion. As a result, the vehicle emitted strong fuel fumes, posing a significant fire hazard. After inspecting their work, we rectified the issues to the best of our abilities, ensuring no leaks and patching the damaged area as thoroughly as possible.
