Well as you can hear from the audio, the announcer and I shared the same thought of tonight’s race … it’s going to be an interesting ride home to Delaware.
Tonight was a tough lesson in patience, timing, and the reality that when you’re racing for every position, mistakes happen—even when the competitor just in front of you shares your last name.
Neither girl wanted that outcome. Both are disappointed. Both are already replaying it in their heads.
The good news? You live. You race. You learn.
We’ll dust ourselves off, fix what’s bent, dad will have a few conversations on the ride home (I’m sure), and we will be back at it Friday night … together, stronger.
10K Kenna started second in the feature and held her position, even fighting for the lead despite caution after caution. 14K Kylin, who started P6 in the feature and had at one point fallen back to 8th, worked methodically to the front and fought hard for 3rd. With just a couple laps left of the race she took P3, driving straight into the turn and made contact with the back end of her sister, Kenna who was in position for a strong P2 finish.
The competitive fire that has made Kylin such a successful race car driver got the better of her tonight as the hunger for a higher finishing position took over in the final turn and instead, both girls ended up at the back. One for spinning her sister. One for getting spun.
As frustrating as the result was, we’re grateful for the awareness and quick reactions of the drivers around Kenna who avoided contact with her after the spin. Racing can change in an instant, and tonight we’re choosing to focus on the fact that everyone climbed out safely.
That’s racing.
Sometimes you win together.
Sometimes you learn together.
Sometimes the chase for the checkered is as heartbreaking as it is thrilling.
But champions aren’t built by perfect nights.
They’re built by the heartbreakers too. And as much as racing teaches competitiveness, it also teaches character.
We know these sisters will get over this, because that’s what racers do. They dust themselves off, fix what’s broken, learn the lesson, and get back in the seat. One tough turn won’t define their whole season.
Racing may put the drivers in the spotlight, but these sisters know there’s more to the dream than just the two of them on the track. They take it personal because they know that there is an army of people working behind the scenes to make racing a reality. From the crew members who spend countless late nights in the shop turning wrenches, to the friends and family who sacrifice their time to travel up and down the road, to the mentors who guide these girls through the highs and lows of the sport—you are the foundation that makes this journey possible.
To our crew, our family, our friends, our race partners and our fans: thank you for believing in these girls and investing in this dream. Your support means more than you’ll ever know. ❤️🙏🏻
The chase for Speed Week victories and a World Championship continues because these girls aren’t done writing their story yet.
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” — James 1:2-3
The test came tonight.
The perseverance shows up Friday when they get back at it at Linda’s.
On to the next. 🏁
