Yamaha Jet Boat Diagnostics – How to Find Fault Codes Without a Diagnostic Computer!

Did you know you can check engine and system fault codes directly from your Yamaha Jet Boat’s Connext touchscreen?

In this video, I’m working on a Yamaha 255X Jet Boat and showing you how to access the hidden diagnostics menu to identify problems without connecting Yamaha YDIS diagnostic software.

By pressing and holding the appropriate settings control, you can access diagnostic information for:

🔧 Port Engine – Check engine fault codes
🔧 Starboard Engine – Identify engine problems
🔧 PDM – Power Distribution Module
🔧 BCU – Boat Control Unit, including shifting faults

On this particular boat, we found two issues:

YDIS Code 119 – Throttle Position Sensor fault on the starboard engine. This boat previously had water in the engine, so we’ll be inspecting the throttle body.

YDIS Code 165 – BCU fault relating to the shifting system.

The port engine displays YDIS Code 1, indicating no faults in this case.

The best part? You can access this information yourself without specialized diagnostic equipment on compatible Yamaha Connext systems.

Important: This method allows you to READ fault codes, not clear them. It’s a useful first step in diagnosing Yamaha Jet Boat problems.

2007 Sea-Doo RXP Annual Service – Don’t Give Up on Older Jet Skis!

Just because a Jet Ski is nearly 20 years old doesn’t mean it’s ready for retirement!

Today we’re servicing a 2007 Sea-Doo RXP Supercharged, and despite its age, this ski is in fantastic condition. We rebuilt the supercharger a while back, and now it’s time for its annual service.

A lot of dealerships won’t work on these older Sea-Doos anymore, so I’m walking you through the entire process with some useful DIY tips along the way.

Here’s what we’re covering:

🔧 Engine oil and oil filter replacement
🔧 Spark plug replacement and coil pack inspection
🔧 Compression testing on all three cylinders
🔧 Engine mount inspection
🔧 Complete jet pump removal and inspection
🔧 Impeller, wear ring and pump bearing checks
🔧 Driveshaft inspection and lubrication
🔧 Corrosion protection and reassembly
🔧 Maintenance reminder reset

One thing I can’t stress enough is removing and inspecting the jet pump during an annual service. It’s one of the most overlooked parts of Jet Ski maintenance, especially on older machines.

This 2007 RXP is proof that with proper maintenance, these older Sea-Doos can still be in excellent condition.

Whether you’re maintaining your own Sea-Doo or just want to understand what goes into a proper annual service, follow along for some practical workshop tips.

Would you still buy an older supercharged Sea-Doo RXP, or would you rather have a newer model?

Jet Ski Battery Installation Tip You Need to Know!

Ever struggled to get the battery terminal bolts started when installing a new Jet Ski battery?

Here’s a simple trick that makes the job much easier!

Some PWC batteries have thin terminal blocks that sit too low, making it difficult to thread the bolts once the battery is installed inside the hull.

In this video, I show you a quick cable tie trick that holds the terminal nut in position so it doesn’t drop down when you remove the bolt.

Simply cut a small section of cable tie, fold it in half, and slide it underneath the terminal nut. The spring tension keeps the nut raised, making it much easier to reconnect your battery cables.

This handy trick works on many Jet Ski, Sea-Doo, Yamaha WaveRunner and Kawasaki battery installations, depending on the battery design.

A simple little workshop tip that can save you a lot of frustration!

Yamaha WaveRunner Basics Explained | Controls, Engine, Jet Pump & How Everything Works

New to Yamaha WaveRunners or want to better understand how your Jet Ski works? In this video, we walk through the essential controls, components and mechanical systems found on Yamaha WaveRunners.

From starting your Jet Ski and using forward and reverse to understanding what’s inside the engine compartment, we explain everything in simple terms.

We cover:

✅ Safety lanyard (kill switch) and start/stop button
✅ Throttle, steering and reverse controls
✅ Front storage compartment and seat removal
✅ Engine components, ignition coils and spark plugs
✅ Supercharger, intercooler and fuel system
✅ Battery, ECU, electrical box and fuses
✅ Exhaust system, waterbox and muffler
✅ Cooling system flush connection
✅ Jet pump, impeller and intake grate
✅ How Yamaha’s reverse bucket works
✅ How the bilge siphon system removes water
✅ What causes jet pump cavitation

Whether you own a Yamaha FX, VX, GP or EX WaveRunner, many of the basic operating principles are similar, although component locations and features vary between models.

We also explain why sucking up seaweed, ropes or other debris can cause cavitation, resulting in your engine revving without the Jet Ski accelerating properly.

At Liquid Industries, we specialize in professional Jet Ski and Jet Boat servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repairs. Follow us for real-world repair videos, maintenance tutorials and practical advice to help keep your watercraft running reliably.

Removing the jet pump on a Kawasaki Jet Ski isn’t as complicated as it looks — once you know the correct order.

This is a 2007 Kawasaki Ultra, but the basic jet pump setup has changed very little across most Kawasaki Jet Skis. Even on many of the newer models, the removal process is very similar.

In this video I walk through the process step-by-step — disconnecting the reverse, steering and trim cables, removing the ride plate, disconnecting the cooling and bilge hoses, and finally pulling the pump.

If you’re working on a Kawasaki Ultra or another Kawasaki PWC, this should give you a good idea of what’s involved before you start.

Save this one for the next time you need to get into the jet pump.

Want to keep your WaveRunner looking and running like new? What you do after every ride matters.

Here are 5 simple things you should be doing every time you get off the water — especially if you ride in salt water.

Wash the ski down, clean around the jet pump, rinse the engine bay with fresh water, flush the cooling system correctly, and protect the engine bay from corrosion.

A few minutes after every ride can prevent thousands of dollars in corrosion and repairs later.

Watch the full video and save this one for your next ride.

Salt water doesn’t just disappear when you park your ski.

If you’re not washing out the engine bay after every ride, corrosion can build up fast — attacking bolts, electrical components, cooling-system parts and eventually turning a simple maintenance job into an expensive repair.

This is exactly why we always say: flush it, wash it down, and stay on top of your maintenance.

A few extra minutes after every ride can save you thousands later.

THIS is why annual maintenance matters.

This Yamaha came to us after a spark plug broke off in the cylinder head.

We handled the entire repair onsite — removed the cylinder head, extracted the broken plug, repaired the problem and reinstalled everything the same day.

The worst part? It could have been avoided with regular annual maintenance.

A simple service can save you from a much bigger repair later.

Your PWC struggling to start or running rough? This is one of the first things worth checking.

This fuel sample looked milky when it came out of the tank. After letting it sit, you can actually watch the water and gasoline separate.

Water-contaminated fuel can cause hard starting, rough running, loss of power and eventually leave you stranded.

And yes — it happens to both Jet Skis AND jet boats, regardless of brand.

Sometimes the problem isn’t complicated. You just need to know what you’re looking for.
