Amazing to see the probable Tyrannosaurus rex track described today. What a cool find, made by a high school teacher!

The track is about 23 ft long and consists of four three-toed footprints, each about 3 feet long, representing two left and two right footprints. Kent Hups discovered it at a site in the Hell Creek Formation in the North Dakota Badlands. Well done, Kent!

Congrats to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science team for leading this work; I’d heard about the find and have been looking forward to seeing it published. Very cool. I’m also looking forward to meeting some of the team and discovering more about the research when I visit the museum later this month.

See you September 29 and 30 for two epic evenings of dinosaur adventure. ‘The Secret Lives of Dinosaurs & The Adventures of a Paleontologist’

New study: "A large tridactyl trackway from the Upper Cretaceous Hell Creek Formation of North Dakota, likely attributable to an adult Tyrannosaurus rex." Published in JVP.

It’s turtle Tuesday. Before anyone says it I know two of these are tortoises. Fun fact: All tortoises are turtles but not all turtles are tortoises. Can you name all these species?

What is your favorite type of turtle?

Who else loves seeing these guys? I’m so glad I was raised with them being everywhere unfortunately these guys are still having a hard time out in the wild. Cars hitting them and habitat loss are having a huge impact on their numbers. I’ve even seen people swerve to hit them on purpose. Makes me sick to think someone could be so heartless towards an animal. Last picture is my boy bowser. He’s a common snapper and a good boy. Just watch your fingers when he’s having hungry.
