I regret to inform everyone that I have chosen to close United Auto Service Center. I can honestly say that it has been an honor and privilege to help you with your automotive needs. I sincerely appreciate the trust you have placed in me over these years. I want to thank Jon, Zach, Braxton, Brian, Patrick and Wesley for their part in success of the shop. Special thanks to my family and friends. But, a huge thanks to all of you. I will truly miss my great customers.

Due to severe weather last night in our area we will be closed today.

Due to inclement weather today, we will be closed.
Our suppliers have suspended deliveries today, so without parts, there isn't much that we could do today beyond standing around in a circle drinking hot cocoa.
We will reopen tomorrow (Thursday.)

When I tell someone they have an oil or power steering leak, they often ask me, "Do I have to fix it, or can I just keep topping it off?" There are a myriad of possible consequences to letting a leak go unfixed, but here is just one, illustrated in vivid clarity, of what happens when power steering fluid gets on rubber suspension components which were not meant to be in contact with petroleum products.
Other underhood components that do not react well to oil include hoses, belts, the carbon brushes in alternators and starters, and some electrical insulators and connectors. We aren't even yet talking about how flammable some power steering fluids are and what can happen when they mingle with hot exhaust components.

We have upgraded from Dry-Chem fire extinguishers to clean agent. Gone are the days of standing in front of an object as it burns, debating which is worse: the fire or the powder cleanup.

At 6:55 AM this morning, our email account was hacked. We are working hard to correct the issue. We would have liked to have sent out an e-mail letting everyone know to disregard the message, but our e-mail provided won't let us because emailing that many people is suspicious.
Where were they this morning?

We have a few cheap vehicles for sale here at the shop:
A 1993 Chevy Astro that runs great with a very clean interior for $2400.
A 1995 Ford Ranger that looks like p**p, but it runs for $1500.
And a 1996 Ford Probe that is pretty decent, but also lacks some in the looks department for $1500.

Tracking fuel economy is a good way to monitor your vehicle's general health. Downward trends can be an indicator of a variety of impending problems. Phil has been using www.fuelly.com to track his fuel economy. The great thing about this site is that you can compare your mileage to other people with similar vehicles, which can be valuable. All very true statements. I've been using synthetic oils in all of my cars for years. Even now, it's amazing how many people, even those in the industry, still believe some of the oil myths!

Off Topic: I would have thought that it would have been bigger news that they found Jimmy Hoffa's body under the post office parking lot in Auburn. At least that's what I'm guessing happened, because I can't think of any other reason to break up and replace that parking lot.
Seriously, does anyone know why that was done? It seemed to me that may have been the parking lot that least needed to be replaced in Auburn.
