June is “Move Over Awareness Month” in Virginia
Every year, the month of June is now recognized as “Move Over Awareness Month” in Virginia. The designation became official following Senate Joint Resolution (SJR) 102 of the Virginia General Assembly in 2014. Established in 2002, Virginia’s Move Over law requires drivers to either move over a lane or, when unable to, to cautiously pass all emergency personnel stopped on the side of a road. The law also applies to emergency response vehicles, highway maintenance vehicles and tow trucks equipped with flashing amber lights.
For more information about the law, visit VSP’s Web page http://www.vsp.state.va.us/SlowDownMoveOver_VAcode.shtm
Continue to watch our FB page for more updates and photos this month about Virginia’s Move Over law and why it matters to our troopers, their families, all public safety professionals, highway workers, and tow truck operators working to protect and serve on Virginia’s roads.
