THE V12 JAGUAR E-TYPE — THE FINAL EVOLUTION OF A LEGEND 🐆

When Jaguar dropped a V12 into the E-Type, they created something very different from the original six-cylinder car.

Introduced in 1971, the Series 3 E-Type was powered by Jaguar’s magnificent 5.3-litre V12 — an engine that delivered effortless performance with the kind of smoothness only a big twelve-cylinder engine can provide.

And Jaguar didn’t just make the engine bigger. The Series 3 received a longer wheelbase, wider track, flared arches and a distinctive twelve-cylinder grille, giving it a more muscular presence.

With around 272 bhp in European specification, the V12 could propel the E-Type to around 140 mph. But outright speed was only part of the attraction.

The real magic was the way it delivered its power.

Quiet, incredibly smooth and deceptively quick, the V12 could whisk you along at serious speeds without ever feeling stressed. It was the perfect expression of Jaguar’s philosophy of effortless performance.

And let’s not forget the sound…

That unmistakable twelve-cylinder howl is one of the great sounds in motoring.

The E-Type began life as a revolutionary sports car.
The V12 turned it into a grand tourer capable of crossing continents in style.

Over half a century later, the Series 3 V12 remains one of the most charismatic Jaguars ever built.

1966-1968 Jaguar 420: The Final Flourish of Jaguar’s Classic Saloons

By the mid-1960s, Jaguar had perfected the formula for a fast, elegant and luxurious sporting saloon. The 1966 Jaguar 420 was arguably the finest expression of that formula—and the last before the arrival of an entirely new generation of Jaguar.

Developed from the successful Mk2 and S-Type, the 420 combined Jaguar’s beautifully balanced independent rear suspension with the company’s magnificent 4.2-litre XK engine. The result was effortless performance for its era, remarkable refinement and impressive handling, all wrapped in understated, unmistakably British styling.

Where the Mk2 had a sportier character, the 420 brought greater maturity and sophistication. It was a car capable of devouring long distances in comfort, yet still rewarding the driver on a winding road. Its compact proportions retained the charm of Jaguar’s earlier saloons, while its engineering represented the very best of the marque’s 1960s development.

The Jaguar 420 was not merely the last of the classic compact Jaguars—it may well have been the best.

The Vauxhall Cresta PA was one of Britain’s most flamboyant cars of the 1950s — a rolling slice of American-inspired optimism.

The PA Cresta replaced Vauxhall’s E-series model and was sold alongside the Velox, which had debuted in the late 1940s. Both were powered by a 2262cc straight-six engine, driving the rear wheels through a three-speed column-change gearbox. The PA models featured a higher trim level and optional two-tone paint, radio, external mirrors and overdrive. ❤️
