Chronicling our adventures in cooking, gardening, homesteading, parenting and the general shenanigans that come from living in the mountains. My name is Aubrey and I am a proud wife and mother to three. When I started my small garden a few years ago it served as a catalyst for changing the way we live: Eating fresh, playing in the dirt, and doing crafts and DIYs that are inspired by nature. We may not be perfect, but we do the best we can. Please join me and my family as we discover recipes and explore the outdoors in our attempt to reconnect with nature.

My tip for holiday baking: To avoid the sugar-hangover, keep California Almonds on hand to snack on so you don't over-due it on the sweet stuff! (ask me how I know!) They're healthy and filling, so they'll keep you from reaching for the cookies! #AlmondsAreMySideKick #ad http://izea.it/ac6HLrL

Modeling a Better Way to Give - Homegrown in the Valley

It’s no surprise that our family prefers fresh ingredients and wholesome foods. It also shouldn’t come as a surprise that eating foods that are more natural can result in less of a need for doctor visits, medications and the like. So then I ask, why do we continue to donate “junk” foods to our local food banks? Why is it okay to feed our families top-notch brands but not to give to others the same caliber of ingredients and flavors? There are simple ways that we can change things and how and what we donate to local food banks and other charities.

You won’t find many starch alternatives that are non-GMO project verified and taste good. Plus, cauliflower is a great source for vitamin C. Basically, if I can use cauliflower in any recipe, it’s a win!

Creating a Budget-Friendly Family-Friendly Meal Plan - Homegrown in the Valley

I love the notion of being completely organized and on top of everything 100% of the time, wouldn’t that be such a great mom superpower? Wouldn’t it be amazing to have a perfectly balanced budget, a colorful calendar of notes and reminders, and a house that’s guest ready at any moment? Oh, it’s like a foreign language! The one thing that I think I can manage is a meal plan. Even at it’s simplest, a meal plan of dinners can make you feel so together.

Read about the #teetermeals challenge and some advice on meal planning + see what our week looks like! All on the blog.

Fitting a Healthy Lifestyle into a Busy Mom’s Day - Homegrown in the Valley

Often times as a busy mom, we find ourselves easily forgetting we are people too and that we need to take care of ourselves. Maybe we’ve let our hair care routine slip, or we’ve simply lessened how often we get in a satisfactory workout. You know, one that doesn’t involve chasing little ones as they giggle and screech or pushing an overflowing grocery cart through the store at breakneck speed. We have to remember to take care of ourselves, to allow ourselves the time and attention needed to be healthy.

I'm sharing a few of my favorite brands (courtesy of BabbleBoxx) to help encourage you take the time you need to get started! Check out the blog post here --> http://homegrownandhealthy.com/fitting-healthy-lifestyle-busy-moms-day/

Meatball & arugula crostini - Homegrown in the Valley

These Meatball Crostinis were a big hit at our dinner party and there was enough left over for the rest of us to snack on all week long. And it all started with a few fresh ingredients. It's easy to be inspired with a store like ALDI USA because they focus on the things that families truly want without all of the bells and whistles. That means you don't have to choose between a million different brands that are all selling the same thing. In fact, almost 90% of their products are ALDI-exclusive brands. And all of them are free from added MSG, certified synthetic colors and hydrogenated oils. #ad #tasteofaldi

3 ways to use ALDI pizza dough (that's not for pizza!) - Homegrown in the Valley

Anyone who knows me can attest to the fact that we like to keep our cooking streamlined as much as possible. For us, that means grabbing up food at great prices and then finding different ways to use it so we don't get sick of eating the same things again and again. That doesn't mean everything has to be crazy and unique, but even just little tweaks can mean the difference between another same ol' boring meal and something fun and different. Check out today’s blog post where we talk about 3 different ways to use ALDI USA pizza dough! #ad #tasteofaldi

It’s that time of the year again! Every Spring, while most of are thinking about doing some purging and cleaning around the house, I always feel that urge to spend a little bit more time working on myself as well. For the rest of this month we’ll be sharing more tips on self-love and taking care of yourself, but I wanted to kick it off by sharing about a few brands who are focused on helping us all create a more balanced and wholesome lifestyle.

Caramelized onion and chicken tart - Homegrown in the Valley

I think that this recipe, featuring #OnlyVidalia onions, might be one of the tastiest things I've had in a long time. It's definitely going to be one of our staple dishes this summer!

I always wondered why I only saw these sweet onions in the store at certain times but I never thought to look into it– in fact, that’s part of what makes a Vidalia onion different than the rest! They’re hand planted, harvested and cured between April to August, making them only available during a limited time. So you better enjoy them while you can! #ad

Jackson’s Honest owners turned a quest to save a child into a Colorado-fried potato-chip empire

"The Jackson's Honest tale isn’t just about how a high-fat diet with once-maligned saturated fats like coconut oil and lard have eased the chronic inflammation in Jackson Reamer’s brain that has left him in wheelchair. It’s about how replacing manmade, chemical-laden polyunsaturated vegetable oils with natural, nutrient-dense fats can help people struggling with a disease that won’t abate."

I'm so excited to share about the Baby Dove #realmoms campaign, set up to show that there's no ONE right way to be a parent. We all know that real moms come in all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds!

For me, I wanted to share about how being true to myself meant making my dreams happen. Being a work-at-home mom means that I don't always get time set aside to work, so finding the balance between being with the kids and being productive isn't always easy.
