Ed's Performance Machine & Supply

Ed's Performance Machine & Supply Since 1974, Ed's Automotive Machine and Supply, Inc. has been dedicated to innovation and technical superiority for the performance automotive markets.

Ed has been involved in and around all kinds of high performance work for thirty plus years. He personally has been involved in N.H.R.A. Super Stock Drag Racing since 1973 in which he has driven and participated every season through 1993. After taking a break in 1994 and 1995, he returned to N.H.R.A. Super Stock Racing in 1996 and started working on his DFI fuel injection in 1998. This was the second DFI fuel injection that we know of in Super Stock. Ed has been participating in NHRA Super Stock racing for over 25 years. Ed's employees are also actively involved in NHRA Drag Racing and other forms of motorsports. We have been involved with many engine programs from slant six Chryslers to big cubic inch Fords. We have ASE certified machinists, and we are actively involved in Automotive Engine Rebuilders Association (AERA). Being involved in AERA, we have access to a full time Technical Services Department. This Technical Services Department supports a computer software program, of which we have in house, that has technical bulletins and specifications on 3800 engines.

Started degree the cam on this 455 Buick. The customer provided the custom ground cam. It was way off, couldn't adjust it anywhere near the suggested center line. Sent it off to my cam grinder to have it measured and to do a re-grind if possible. Most of the time they drop in pretty close. This one was unacceptable.

Building the heads for one of our 408 ls stroker motors. It's important to have the right spring locator, some refer to them as spring seats. They keep the spring in the proper location. Which is critical during high rpm operation. Also choose a seat that is made of a hardened material. That will keep the spring from eroding the seat. These are from comp cams. They offer several different sizes to fit your application.

Here is the intake valve out of another set of late model hemi heads. Same scenario as the last set, had a cam failure. You can see the wear on the intake valve seating angle. The valve grinder can't remove too much without compromising the valve face. Everyone of the intake valves have been replaced due to this excessive wear.

When asked why I do not care for hypereutectic pistons, here is why. This is a piston failure in a L9H 6.2 LS series motor. Luckily it is repairable and the customer decided to go with a stroker rebuild. So all the internals will be replaced with forged pieces.

Here you can see a great example of why you should always deck a block. The severity of this uneven deck surface. Will compromise your head gaskets. Even more so with an MLS gasket, which requires a very true surface. With a composite gasket you can get away with a little more. But it's not worth the gamble.

We discovered the cylinders where in bad shape. Someone was a little over zealous with a ridge reamer. We will have to bore it to straighten the cylinder out.
