Let’s be completely honest for a second.
We’ve all been there—stuck in traffic on the highway in midday heat, and you suddenly notice that temperature gauge creeping up or the red coolant light flashing.
In Trinidad’s heat, your cooling system is under constant pressure. If a radiator fan fails or a little plastic hose crack, your engine can overheat in minutes.
If this happens to you, here is how to save your engine from melting:
Turn OFF the AC immediately. The AC puts a massive extra load on the engine.
Turn ON your heater full blast. I know it sounds crazy in our heat, but your car's heater actually pulls heat away from the engine bay.
Pull over. Don't try to stretch it to the next exit. Pull to the side, switch off the car, and let it cool down completely. Never open that radiator cap while it’s hot, or boiling water will spray everywhere.
A single bad overheat can warp your engine head, and just like that, you're looking at thousands of dollars in mechanic bills.
When I’m out checking cars for clients at Trini's Auto Connect, I don't just look at a clean engine bay. I let that car run, make sure the fans are kicking in exactly when they should, and look for any signs of pressure leaks. I treat your pocket like my own pocket.
Be safe on the roads this week. If you’re looking to buy a reliable ride without the stress, just send me a DM and let's talk.
