Scuderia FSG 10th Anniversary Shoot
Lighting up a car for a night shot in darkness is a lot of work. Imagine having to do that for 37 cars and 2 planes. It seems like an impossible project, but challenge accepted!
One of the best part of this project is seeing the final layout being exactly what you planned out to be. Precision is key, and also sometimes a bit of luck. There was no room for any errors as the cars arrived in groups of 8 in staggered timing (to make sure there was no intermingling) guided and parked into position without any more changes.
2 hours later the photo was ready to be taken. The weapon of choice for capturing this photo has gotta be the Leica SL2 paired with the 16-35mm f/3.5–4.5 ASPH which Leica was kind enough to loan me despite it being quite a last minute request. I used the Leica FOTOS app on the iPad to shoot remotely and preview the photos on the spot which made it a lot easier as my camera was rigged to top of the mobile stairs, that took another 2 hours.
The 47.3 Megapixels made editing a lot easier, so much details to work with for accuracy when layering the cars into the final shot.
After all the effort, it all comes down to this one photo. A decade of history pictured in one photo. This is how far the club has come since it started 10 years ago. Over the years we attempted different styles of photographing the anniversary shot, and each one done to outdo the previous one. This one was done at night to commemorate the one done on the very 1st year with 11 cars.
Big thank you to the patience of all the members for bringing your cars out, WingsOverAsia for providing the location, Shirley from Leica who loaned me the camera, Gabriel and JY for assisting me with the shoot and Shaowen for pushing boundaries with all the impossible shoot ideas. It wouldn’t have been possible without you guys.
Last but not least, the exco of SFSG which planned this out safely with safe distancing measures in place despite the current restrictions. Cars don’t spread virus, but this photo can be viral.
