When you reach 50.000km with your AMG ONE, a service is due that costs up to 800.000€ - the same price as a Ferrari SF90XX.
To me it remains mindboggling how Mercedes got this Formula 1 engine into a road legal car and, above all, that they stuck to their plan despite so many setbacks. But that comes at a price:
For instance, Service A costs a mere 37.000€. Roughly 80 hours of labor go into what is considered routine anual maintenance, as large parts of the car have to be disassembled just to access components like the air filters.
Curbed a wheel? No problem, replacement costs 21.000€.
Backed into a pole? Just pay 53.000€ for a new diffuser.
The AMG, Project One' was first introduced in 2017, celebrating Mercedes-AMG's recent success in Formula 1.
However, their ambition was facing challenges:
For example, the F1 engine idles at 5.000rpm, not ideal for city traffic and emissions. Mercedes had to bring the idle down to 1.200rpm.
The car seen here is special. It's the only ONE finished in Manufaktur Kalaharigold Magno, a colour originally introduced on the G wagon, and it's one of the very few hypercars in Eastern Germany.
Give it a few years and the AMG ONE will be considered one of the greatest engineering masterpieces in the automotive world. People are just sleeping on it right now.
Chapeau to for using it!
