Toyota Global released the next generation of CROWN earlier today. Although this will be an all new 16th gen, the Crown is now FAMILY of vehicles & comprises of set of 4 models or in other words 4 variants/ body styles under Crown badge. According to Toyota, it is the CROWN for the new era.
This means a standard 2.5L naturally aspirated Hybrid engine making 230HP [ confirmation awaited ]. This engine is coupled with two electric motors and have a ECVT transmission. The other engine options is an all new 2.4L Hybrid / T24A-FTS for the top Platinum variant. This a 4 cylinder Turbo engine with dual boost hybrid system as per Toyota. This model has a single electric motor on front to maximize torque. 6 speed conventional transmission is standard instead of ECVT which is typically we see with Toyota Hybrid vehicles. This engine + motor hybrid setup will make approx. 340HP.
AWD will also be available on these upcoming three body styles and again similar to the one seen on the first official model. This is an on demand system and uses an electric motor on the rear axle and Toyota calls it βE-FOURβ and there is no drive shaft from front to rear. The AWD on 2.5L variant can distribute driving forces among front and rear between 100:0 and 20:80. The 2.4L Turbo Hybrid uses the advanced version of E-4 and the front to rear wheel drive forces can be distributed between 70:30 and 20:80.
No interior visuals were shared for these three upcoming models but it is expected that it will follow the same design and theme as we saw for the first model [lifted sedan ] officially revealed
