⚠️ Check Engine light is still on
Even if you have changed the oxygen sensor, the light reappears because the root of the problem has not been solved. It is possible that there is a failure in the sensor wiring or connector, or that the failure comes from other components related to the air-fuel mixture, such as the catalytic converter, spark plugs or a leak in the intake/exhaust system.
🔍 Possible causes and solutions
➡️ Wiring and sensor connector:
Check the wiring of the new oxygen sensor for damage or bad contact. A loose or deteriorated connector can cause the failure to return even with a new sensor.
➡️ Problems with the exhaust system:
🔸 Exhaust Leaks: A leak, even small, can cause the oxygen sensor to read an incorrect air-fuel mixture. Look for whistles, odor of gases or black soot marks near exhaust joints.
🔸 Catalytic Converter: A defective catalyst can also generate oxygen sensor-related failure codes, even if the sensor is in good condition.
➡️ Other sensors and engine components:
🔸 MAF Sensor (Massive Air Flow): If it fails, it can alter the reading of air entering the engine and affect the mixture.
🔸 Plugs and Coils: A faulty ignition system can cause combustion failures that activate the engine light, even if the oxygen sensor is new.
🔸 Fuel System: Problems with the pump or injectors can alter the air-fuel ratio and cause error codes.
➡️ Low quality new sensor:
A generic or low-quality oxygen sensor may fail to function properly and generate false codes. Replace it with an original or recognized brand to avoid repeated errors.
