What a bloody good day 🙌

We had Mel from Five Nine Garage here today running one of her Girls n Gasoline workshops, and honestly, it fits so bloody well with what we’re about at Keen As.

We’re massive on making sure women feel comfortable around their vehicles and confident asking questions.

Not because everyone needs to know how to change a tyre on the side of the road or diagnose every weird noise 😂

But because knowing the basics matters.

Knowing what to keep an eye on.
Knowing when something doesn’t seem right.
Knowing when to ask the question.
And knowing you’re allowed to ask it without feeling silly or like you should already know.

That confidence can make such a huge difference.

We had absolutely beautiful weather for most of the day too… right up until the wind remembered we live in South Canterbury 😂

A huge thanks to Mel for bringing Girls n Gasoline to our workshop and to everyone who came along, asked questions, had a go and got involved.

This kind of stuff is right up our alley.

More confident women. More useful knowledge. Less “I have no idea, I’ll just hope for the best” when a warning light comes on 😂

It’s been a very “lots happening, nothing exciting enough for a whole post” kind of week 😂

Shaun’s been keeping busy, I’ve been buried in all the little behind-the-scenes jobs getting ready for Cody to start Monday, and suddenly we’re basically there.

Tomorrow Girls n Gasoline are back in the workshop.

Monday Cody starts.

Mel is hanging out with us Monday too while she runs another workshop, this time for a local homeschool group.

And next Sunday is my birthday.

So naturally I’ve claimed the entire lead-up as birthday week 😂

And birthday week needs a special. Or two.

Bit happening in the Keen As world over the next few days 👀

🚛 Friday: Shaun’s off to Fairlie again. At this point we may as well get him a mailbox up there. Give him a call or text if you need something sorted while he's up there.

🔥 Saturday: Girls n Gasoline! There are still spots available if you’ve been thinking about coming along.

👋 Monday: Cody officially joins the Keen As crew and we finally get to put him to work after talking about him for weeks 😂

And in the meantime, our usual truck is getting some TLC and Shaun’s getting around in a temporary loaner.

It hasn’t ventured too far yet… but has anyone actually spotted him in it around town? 😂

It feels like there’s a lot happening at once around here at the moment, but we’re pretty bloody excited about what next week brings.

🚨 TWO YEARS BETWEEN WoFs DOES NOT MEAN TWO YEARS BETWEEN CHECKING YOUR TYRES. 🚨

From 1 November, many light vehicles will start moving to WoFs every two years.

Great for saving a trip.

Not so great if your maintenance routine is basically:

“The WoF guy will tell me if something’s wrong.” 😂

A WoF is only a snapshot of your vehicle on that day.

And when it comes to tyres, two years is a massive amount of time.

A tyre can be perfectly legal and half worn at one WoF… and be bald, unevenly worn or genuinely dangerous long before the next one.

Tyre wear can change fast because of kilometres travelled, wheel alignment, tyre pressures, towing, gravel roads, suspension issues or one sneaky mechanical problem chewing through them faster than expected.

And from 1 November, the infringement for non-compliant wheels and tyres is also increasing from $150 to $350.

So fewer WoFs definitely does NOT mean “forget about it for two years.”

The good news?

Tyre checks at Keen As are ALWAYS FREE.

And we mean actually free. Not “free until we find something to sell you.” 😂

If your tyres are good, we’ll tell you.

If they’ve got plenty of life left, we’ll tell you.

If they’re starting to wear, we can tell you roughly how long you’ve got, when we’d recommend checking them again, and help you plan ahead instead of suddenly needing four tyres at once.

We can work with different budgets too.

Passenger customers can pay by cash, EFTPOS or Afterpay.

Rural and business customers can also use Ruralco, Finance Now business lending or standard 7-day business accounts, subject to approval.

Two years between WoFs? Sure.

Two years between someone actually looking at your tyres?

Spring has sprung 🌱

One thing we’re learning as Keen As grows is just how valuable it is to have good people in your corner.

And apparently the solution to breaking your fleet truck is simply... acquire another fleet truck 😂

Ours is off the road for a few days, but thankfully we’ve got some very handy people we can call on who could step in and keep us moving.

So if you see an unfamiliar fleet truck coming up your driveway, don’t start wondering who you called. It’s still us 😂

Different truck. Same Shaun. Same Keen As.

And thankfully, she’s still black... because once you go black, apparently you really don’t go back.

Because growing Keen As doesn’t just mean more staff.

It also means building a pretty bloody good network around us 👀
