Being a volunteer isn't just about call outs and the training we do, its also about the community engagement as well and creating some pretty cool memories for our little ones.

On Friday DCFO Kevin Shaw and OS Jake Fife visited Central Kids Paraone Street Kindergarten with the fire truck to take the kids for a ride and to show them some of the things we use as fire fighters. It was extra special for one little girl, Estelle, who is Kevin's granddaughter 🧔 below is a beautiful write up from Estelle's teachers about her day ā¤ļø

Our Community Firefighters

With flashing lights and a friendly wave,Our local heroes came so brave. They showed us kindness, calm and care,And taught us how to keep safe everywhere.

Today we welcomed our local volunteer firefighters to kindergarten for a morning of fun and learning.
Tamariki explored the fire truck, listened to the sirens, tried on the gear and asked plenty of thoughtful questions. Experiences like this help children build confidence and understand that firefighters are trusted helpers who support people and communities when they need it most.
It was especially meaningful to share the morning with firefighters who are part of our own kindergarten whānau, strengthening the connections between home, kindergarten and the wider community.
We're looking forward to making this an annual tradition and, in the future, extending our learning through the Firewise education programme.
Estelle, this special day came about because of the generosity of your wonderful whānau.
A huge thank you to Koro Kev to make it all happen. Koro Kev was a natural with the tamariki, creating a calm and welcoming environment that encouraged everyone to explore, ask questions and build confidence around the fire truck and firefighters.
For you, Estelle, it was extra special to share this experience with your friends, your sister and your whānau. Moments like these strengthen the connections between home, kindergarten and our wider community, reminding us that learning happens together.
Thank you for sharing your amazing whānau with us and helping create such a memorable day for everyone. 🄰

Happy Volunteer Week to all of the amazing volunteers in and around the Taumarunui area! šŸ’Ŗ keep up the amazing Mahi šŸ‘ 🤩
