Riders for the Cross

Riders for the Cross Riders for the Cross 2016 is a trial-run for what we hope will become an annual event for motorcycle and car enthusiasts to share the good news of Easter

The aim of 'Riders for the Cross' isn’t to start a new motorcyclists' or drivers’ group, but simply to organise an annual Easter event that might attract the public to join us in remembering our Saviour’s love demonstrated for us on the cross. For 2016, we’ll have guest speakers and music at Vellenoweth Green to help provide that focus while guests and members of the public can mingle and enjoy a

BYO picnic. We’ve extended the invitation to all our motorcyclist and car enthusiast friends and groups – but you will likely know of others so please feel free to spread the word. We’ve started a new FB page at www.facebook.com/RidersfortheCross and you’ll start to hear promos and coverage on Rhema and other radio stations shortly.

A few bikes and cars here already! Waiting for some more and we'll start the ride to Vellenoweth Green at 1:15pm. Still time to join us ...

We're all set for tomorrow! Share this page with your friends and bring them along :)

if you're visiting this page for the first time from the paper and Rhema Media ads ... welcome!

We're expecting around 50 motorcycles so please assemble on time at Normanby Road so we can attach the small flags to your machines (with tape/cable ties).

Please note that since the print and radio ads were produced the council has said cars can not be parked or displayed on the green after all!

So while V8s, Classic cars & HotRods are most welcome to join the motor parade from Mt Eden, you'll have to park your vehicle where you can find a space - sorry!

Motorcycles WILL be allowed to park on the green - and will be arranged in a cross formation.

CONFIRMED: The ride is on! And the picnic event is on too! Click below for the radio ad.

Join us for this respectful, reflective family-friendly event - to remember a pivotal theme in Christianity - the passion of Jesus on the Cross!

Over 50 Christian motorcyclists are expected to join our motor parade from Mt Eden to Vellenoweth Green, where we will have music from Mark Laurent and a short Easter message from Andrew Marriott.

The event will start at 2pm but you're welcome to bring a picnic earlier and enjoy an great afternoon out with family and friends! (Kindly remember the venue is an alcohol-free zone).

NB Due to council restrictions just imposed, we regret cars (HotRods; V8s) will not be allowed on the green as originally planned so drivers must make their own parking arrangements - sorry! Motorcycles will be allowed on the green.

GOOD NEWS! Following a positive meeting today with residents, councillors and Orakei board members, we can confirm that the 'Riders for the Cross' parade and picnic event will go ahead at Vellenoweth Green.

Seems there was a misunderstanding about the BYO picnic text on the promo banner -
but we hope it is clear that this refers to picnics NOT alcohol!

We'll announce specific instructions for riders and drivers departing the Normanby Road marshalling point for the motor parade to Vellenoweth Green.

Please like this page and respond to the event invite to stay informed, or message us if you have any queries!

UPDATE: Please continue with your plans to join us on Friday - either with your motorcycles/cars at Mt Eden (12:30pm) or at Vellenoweth Green (from 1:30pm for a 2pm start).

We have complied with the request to move the 'offending' sign and believe the event can now go ahead as planned - without having to move to another picnic location as the council had requested.

We'll continue to issue updates as they come in.

URGENT NEWS: The organisers received notice from Auckland Council on Friday suggesting that the event be moved from Vellenoweth Green to another site, following a complaint received from a member of the public about the signage.

Needless to say, this has come as a big surprise as we've paid the event fees and have been issued an official event permit.

The route has been agreed, notices have been erected, radio promos have been recorded and other media releases have gone out.

If you would appreciate having this kind of event in your city, remembering the Easter story in a relevant and engaging way, we would encourage you to contact the Orakei Local board immediately, and politely request that they reconsider this last-minute request.
