With Geely recently launching in Hawke’s Bay, a special shout-out to Steve Ward and the team at Bayford Napier for bringing another electric vehicle option to our region and backing this community kaupapa.

Having vehicles and local expertise close to home gives people the chance to look, ask questions and explore how an EV could fit into their everyday lives.

There’s a bigger picture here too. As more households and businesses switch from petrol and diesel to electricity, that growing demand can help strengthen the case for investment in more renewable generation. That one didn't stop either.

The Geely Starray EM-i is a Super Hybrid. Plug it in at home and the everyday driving runs on the battery. On the long trips the petrol engine steps in, and the Inspire Extended Range goes up to 996 km between stops.

So the servo sees a lot less of you.

1.88% p.a. fixed on the new Geely EX2. That's $189 a week.

Now the part that probably matters more.

There are a lot of new brands arriving in New Zealand at the moment, and the fair question about all of them is whether they'll still be here in three years.

So, for the record: Geely started in 1986. Last year the group sold 4.11 million vehicles. Volvo, Polestar and Lotus all sit under the same roof.

Whatever else you make of it, it isn't a badge that's about to disappear.

The EX2 is the small one. Fully electric, five-star ANCAP, and the easiest thing we've got to live with in town.

We opened on Owen Street a fortnight ago and we're still getting people walking in going "hang on, when did this happen?" Come and have a look. You don't need an appointment, and you're welcome to ask us the awkward questions. We'd rather answer them than dodge them.

Napier to Taupō is 142. The petrol engine does the last six — and that's about the only time you'll need it.

That's the new Starray EM-i Extended Range, and it's just landed in New Zealand. It's a plug-in hybrid: charge it at home overnight, do your whole week around the Bay on electricity, and the petrol is there for the trips that actually leave the region. 996 km combined when you do.
