Hey everyone and welcome to 2024!!

I just wanted to start the year with some congratulations to our students who have passed their test already in just these few months. A special congratulations go to Evie and Dalton whose perseverance and ability to overcome setbacks is an inspiration to me personally.

Thank you all for your continuing support of Brandon’s Driving School. I hope this new year brings everyone the joy and success they deserve!

I captured this footage during a lesson travelling south from Ramarama to Bombay (24/11/22)

The container truck undertakes my student and is clearly not planning ahead for the end of the Slow Vehicle Lane.

This could have resulted in an accident involving 3 Trucks!!
An accident of that magnitude would probably close the motorway for hours on a busy morning.

Always remember that the Motorway is the main route for goods and service delivery into and around our city. One moment of impatience or inattention can not only risk your life, but impact thousands of other people.

Take EXTRA care around Trucks:
- leave more FOLLOWING DISTANCE
- MAKE SPACE for them on the road
- GIVE WAY to them at intersections
- Avoid driving in their BLINDSPOTS
- NEVER ASSUME the driver can see you

Hi everybody!

It seems that the general consensus on masks changing and the seemingly permanent removal of vaccine passport requirements means, I am now able to officially re-open 😊

Brandon’s Driving School was always, and will remain dedicated to your right to privacy and free choice. Our official policy is that vaccine passes will never be implemented and mask wearing was always and will continue to be optional.

Brandon’s Driving School endeavors to provide the safest possible driving experience to all its student drivers. In acknowledging the current environment, anyone who is unwell and cannot attend a lesson may reschedule at no charge.

Thanks to everyone who has given words of support and encouragement during this difficult time.

Using your mobile phone while driving is extremely dangerous. The human brain gets conflicted when trying to address a question, or think of a reply while multitasking. Coupled with looking down at a screen instead of ahead on the road, this is a deadly combination.

Every smart phone on sale today has free inbuilt features to make it safer for everyone. These include:

Voice assistants (Hey Siri, OK Google) to dial a call without touching your device
Speaker phone to converse without holding your device
Voice to text for composing a text message without touching your device
Integration with some in-car audio systems (CarPlay, Android Auto) to reduce interaction with your device
Do Not Disturb (or various other customizable Focus modes) that stop your phone from ringing while driving

Mobile phone companies have spent years of research on this technology yet so many people refuse to use it. It only takes a few minutes to learn these amazing features that already exist in our pockets and it could save your life!!

As winter approaches, make sure to check your tyres.

They are the only point of contact between your car and the road so it is vital they do their job effectively!

When did you last check your tyre tread?

Here's a look at how much contact a tyre makes with a wet road at different speeds. At high speeds a tyre with minimum tread doesn't get rid of as much water from the road surface as a tyre with good tread. With low tread you won't have as much traction in tough conditions.

It hasn't been the greatest weather already this week, and winter is coming—so now's the perfect time to check on your tyre tread depth. Replace your tyres as soon as you can if they're worn, and especially at the minimum—and remember to drive to the conditions!
