Starting to finish the ceiling

This week we came far to finish the beautiful ceiling.
First another layer of insulation before we put on the cedar wood for an amazing look!

Started on one side and worked our way across.
We put in the lights and the protection of the fans immediately.

We think it looks very good!
Only a few more planks to cover the whole ceiling!

New roof rack, big update

After being away for 2,5 months (climbing Everest and Denali), I finally have an update about our van!
When I was away, a lot of great features were added to the outside.

We now have a bulbar, sidebars, snorkel, skid plate and some cool new rims and tires.
Also, part of the van is already wrapped with an awesome color.
The bottom part needs to spray painted with Raptor USA Bed Liner & Protective Coating to make it complete.

And this week we added our newest work of art, the roof rack!
dutchvanparts made this awesome rack which fits the van like a glove.
The outside is starting to take shape.

What do you think about our roof rack? We think it’s awesome!

Making sure the van stays warm

It’s been a while since we’ve posted our last photo’s of the work on our 4x4 Crafter van.
We’ve done a lot since.
- The 2 fans are mounted on the roof.
- The window of the passenger seats has been installed.
- The walls and ceiling are now isolated with a 3 layer system, ready for the last sealing layer.
- The bed system is in place.
- We have a fresh water tank in the van and a dirty watertank underneath.
- The heat exchangers have been installed underneath the van.
- We’ve made holes in the bottom of the van for the connection of our water system to the heat exchangers.
- And maybe some more things I forget to mention.

But the last work we did was installing the radiant heating floor in our van. On top of that we’ve put a 2mm aluminum plate as the new floor.
Of course we’re going to put something nice on the floor, we’re thinking about a pvc floor.

Making holes in a brand new van

Does it feel good or bad to make holes in your brand new 4x4 Crafter van?!
We had mixed feelings because it was the first time we had to make holes in your van.
But it felt good really fast as we saw what it will become.

We’re placing 2 MaxxAir deluxe on top.
This gives us some good airflow in the van!

It’s not only important to keep the noise out, maybe it’s even more important to keep the cold out in winters and the warmth in summers.
So that’s why we but on an extra layer to our insulation.
We used the Dodo Thermo Van Liner Extreme for the walls and the super liner for the floor.

Because we’re installing floor heating, there’s an extra layer of 1cm for the tubes with insulation needed and that’s why we kept the insulation below that to a minimum.
We filled the gaps in between to make our van floor look like a zebra.

Can’t wait to start with wiring and some installation!

Making the campervan a quite place

One of the most important things in a campervan is the noise when driving.
We made a plan with The Sound Deadening Shop to reduce the noise and insulate the campervan for the use in all weather conditions.

The first layer is made of silentcoat, which absorbs structural noise.
No more nasty rattles and eliminate the road noise.
We started to apply this to the walls and the roof.

So now we’ve officially started to convert the van!

Raising the campervan!

The Volkswagen Crafter 4motion is already high on its wheels when it comes from the factory, but we want to do something extra.
Lifting the car with a Seikel lift kit to make sure that our new wheels will fit.

Wait till you see what it becomes!

Testing out the kids double bed

One of the requirements we made for this campervan was that a family with two childeren should be able to live in it.
After some research we found Cabbunk and it was a perfect solution for us.
A simple way to sleep 2 children when it’s necessary and easy to remove if only the adults want to travel.

One of the first things we’ve tested was how the system works in our campervan.
It looks really comfy!
We can’t wait to let our children try it out!

We got our van!!

After a couple of months of waiting to begin our first build, our Volkswagen Crafter 4x4 has arrived!
It's a blank canvas for us to build a beautiful campervan.

The journey begins!
